Just wondering if anyone know where Rob Schwartz is at these days? He worked at Fender some 35+ years and now he seems to have disappeared. Also some to the older guys at Fender's Custom Shop are gone, Mike Eldridge for instance.... If you call and talk with people in PR at Fender they sound like they are 22 years old. Is the corporate mentality driving Fender to remove their employees that are close to retirement, and replacing them with younger people at 1/2 the cost? I hope I am wrong. But so many companies are doing these kind of things.

Xhefri, a very nice website you have. I do not know where the older Fender employees have gone but imagine it is the same place all of us older workers are. 8)

Or, even more likely, many have retired and the company has to replace them. I don't know about anyone in particular, but if Rob has been there for 35+ years, he may be close to retirement. :?:

This is the most likely explanation. If not retirement they may have been lured away by other companies in search of someone with their depth of knowledge. In my experience in large corporate america those tend to be the most common occurances for long-time employees. Experienced long-term employees being let go to hire younger people tends to be more of an artifact a smaller companies trying to save a dime. Larger companies are WAY too obsessed with minimizing the civil liabilities that would be associated with such actions, not to mention most of them absolutely cherish having someone around with that kind of vast corporate knowledge. It's far less overhead managing someone like that than a younger, newer employee.

I see something similar in my business all the time. Older experienced people are no longer running the show. Kids young enough they still smell like pee are placed in supervisory roles trying to bark orders to the only folks experienced enough to know what's going on. In my line of work everything is short term and roles change. I tell these kids to be careful whose toes they step on today because they might might be connected to the asses they have to kiss tomorrow. The message rarely gets through. Not saying that's what's going on at Fender but it's still indicative of current management trends.

Maybe they should start calling themselves "relic'd employees" and start charging a premium for their labor?

People like Rob were indispensable when it came to answering questions about Fender guitars, especially like the 80-90s era. He and I kept is contact up till a few weeks back and then he just dropped off the radar. Kind of wonder what happened. Miss his input on the Forum. Anyone have a personal non-fender email address for him?

Rob is definitely the man. I know he went well above and beyond to help me on more than one occasion. An employee like that is near impossible to find in a large corporate giant in this day and age. He's a credit to Leo's legacy.

I think Brad Traweek is worthy of mention as well. He's helped me through several log-in problems and always has a cheery outlook about whatever issues require attention. He's a consummate gentleman in the truest sense of the word.
