Stumbled on this web site and thought others might wish to opine about what they see here (at the very least, it's something new):

WTS, Dean guitars creator. A really good fellow from what I've heard. I like his new company too. His offices are very close to where I live and a guitarist friend, Daniel Peters, has done a promo video for Dean:

It sounds like it's for the kind of problem that a bit of chalk dust or pebbly/matte finish would fix too.
I can't say that it's ever been a problem for me though.

Umm... I think that's like one of those "suggested serving" photos.

I don't know about revolutionary, but it ought to be a real PITA to keep clean!

I think I've finally turned into an old man. I just said to myself, "Self", I said, "Under the precept of if it ain't broke, don't fix it, this may very well be a good thing but I'm just not interested." I'll never be too old however to stop appreciating a babe like that holding the neck!

I sincerely hope YM Doesn't V regarding my latter point.

Looks functional, and is very enjoyable visually.
Hey, wait - was there a guitar neck somewhere in the pic?

I'm not too sure about that neck, but man, Dean Z (is this the original guy behind the Dean brand?) has some good looking guitar at low prices. Even if the pups turn out to be not all that good, I think that getting one of the guitars there might not be a bad idea.

In particular, the pretty basic Guitars For Veterans guitar seems like a steal - what looks like a pretty good quality guitar and them sending a guitar to a great cause like our veterans? Change to a couple of Seymours, and that might be quite a capable axe for under $500 all in all. Perhaps it's just the old air force guy in me coming out wanting to help out a fellow grunt, but I'm tempted.

Favorite neck? From working with furniture, I'd say untreated walnut, no "Z-neck" or other frills. Untreated smooth wood just has a special feel to it. It might have to be laminated to become strong enough, but the feel is just awesome, and it's not very allergenic either, unlike too many other woods.

Yes Art, that is the "Dean Guitars" Dean Zelinsky:

Then it's even more astonishing that he has all those good guitars for such a low price. Quite a few of the guitar gods I respect the most use or have used Dean guitars. Even if I'm not impressed with the pickup sound - that can be changed!

Too bad I can't go try one out at the local GC, but I'm still tempted to plonk down for one of the Veteran ones - even if I don't like it, a brother who might need an axe will get one.

Thanks, body.

My first thought here was "gee...someone's tried to re-invent the wheel.....again". On the one hand, the logic does sort of make sense...I get what the ad says about putting your hand on a glass window. On the other hand, it's not like I've really ever had my hand "stick to my guitar neck" either (and even -if- I did, me thinks just a tich of talcum powder would do the trick). I have to agree with Stratman and Martian there in that it seems like it would be a "PITA to keep clean" and yea..."if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I would even add that between the way the ad was worded and their apparent need to attach this "breakthrough" guitar neck to a scantly clad blonde, the whole thing really just smells like "gimmick" to me....someone trying to do something "different" to try and set themselves apart from the plethora of other guitar makers out there.

I suspect there's probably a few folks out there who would be tickled over this, but to me it really just seems like the latest, greatest scheme to try and suck money out of our pockets. As I've said elsewhere recently, add the words "new and improved" and people will run out in droves to buy it.....

Interesting concept. I know bassists for quite a few years now have been working with unfinished wenge necks. I've always wanted to try one. Just not enough to pay the custom shop to make me a Precision with one on it. I don't think other than when brand new I've ever found gloss lacquer tackiness to be an issue. Generally playing the instrument takes care of that in fairly short order, in my experience. Looks... interesting, I guess. Definitely not for me, but I can see why some people would be looking for this option and it is pretty fancy looking. So that doesn't hurt.

This is the crux of it right here.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.
