Well, we had a whisky thread, so I thought I'd add a beer one. I've been trying various beers from the local package store and came across this: http://sixpoint.com/beers/cycliquids/hi-res They come in 4-pack cans and are 10.5% ABV, which is actually the strongest beer I've ever had. The second one was La Fin Du Monde, which is from Quebec at around 9%, that I tried many years ago. I'll tell you, one of these and I wasn't feeling any pain and after four of them I am almost on my arse. :P Pretty potent stuff and I'm not exactly a lightweight when it comes to drinking (probably genetics, since I'm Russian, Ukrainian, French, and English :P )

Anyhow, if you feel like giving this a shot and it's available where you live, then go ahead. I think it's pretty good anyway, sans it's kick.

Love me some hops! Yeah high alcohol beers are awesome. The strongest beer I've drank was a tripel Belgian Ale and it was 13%apv. The name escapes me right now though.

Yeah, they were pretty good. They sneak up on you though, that's for sure. :P I've also been trying some of the Samuel Adams stuff recently. They actually make a huge variety of beers that I noticed when I looked at their site. I've had the Rebel Rouser Double IPA (8.4% ABV) and the Cream Stout (4.9% ABV,) which reminds me of a beer from the UK. That one is really smooth with a kind of caramel or toffee finish. I imagine it would make a good desert beer, if that makes sense.

I still have a Samuel Adams Rebel IPA (6.5% IPA) to try that I bought with the Six Point and cream stout. I got that because they were out of the Rebel Rouser stuff.

That's interesting that you can buy that beer and have it shipped to your house if you live in California. I'd love to try it, if they carry it in Newport, RI.

Had never heard of a Double IPA until I saw the Sam Adams ad the other day. Will have to give it a try. The Sam Adams Cream Stout is just excellent !!!! I want to give that new Guinness American Blond Lager a try, also. I guess the Black Lager wasn't a big hit.

I hate spelling errors. Especially my own.

I've seen the Guinness American Blond in the liquor store, but I haven't tried it yet. The last Guinness I had was the version that's brewed in Canada (I believe by Molson.) I guess there's two different variants of the recipe, or whatever that was. I don't remember for certain. It tasted like Guinness to me, anyhow.

Yeah, I've been diggin' the Double IPA, Samuel Adams and otherwise. The cream stout is definitely another go to, as well. It's strange how I kind of avoided trying a lot of Samuel Adams beers for a long time (I really didn't even know that they had such a huge selection,) but I really like them. I suppose the one good thing about them is their availability everywhere, since I assume they are a national brand like Budweiser, even though they are an independent company.

I tried the Kentucky Bourbon Ale which is 9% and wasn't bad at all.

That sounds interesting. If I see any in the store, then I'll try some. Either that, or I'll ask the dude that works there. He's actually pretty helpful and was the one that told me about the Sixpoint DIPA.

agree 100% That Sixpoint brew is fantastic,

so is the Sixpoint Resin, (this comes in a full pack)

If you see Stone IPA or Stone Ruination, try that too. Delicious!

I haven't tried the Resin yet, but intend too, as well as what else of that brand they might carry. Recently I've been buying three different brands to try at a time. I guess I've been on an experimental kick, lately. :P A lot of these are pretty expensive, especially since I live in RI, where I'm sure they tax the $@!& out of booze, compared to a place like Florida, where I use to live, so I don't go too crazy with this stuff. If I'm too broke I'll channel my inner hipster and drink PBR tall boys, or Narragansett's, which I actually do like. Those, or Ballantine Ale, which is another preference.

At least they aren't Milwaukee's Beast, Natty Light, or worse than that, Beer 30. :P I actually was curious (and probably masochistic) and tried a 6 pack of Beer 30 and needless to say, that was the worse thing I ever drank in my life. Not necessarily because of the taste, but because it actually physical hurt me afterward, like I swallowed the can, itself. Maybe there's drain cleaner in that stuff. :P

Yeah, if I see any of that Stone beer, I'll try some. 8) I just looked on their site and it looks like they have them in Newport.

regarding the Resin, wife and I were up in Perkins Cove ME. this fall. The place we go to often for lunch usually has some Stone brews on draft, but they changed out the kegs, and didn't have any IPA or Ruination, so I tried the Resin, which never having had any before, I didn't realize all these come in a cans,

(well, okay let's keep an opened mind..) it was love at first sip.. just delicious!

I live in Central Mass, and ya the tax here is pretty hefty too, and these brews are not cheap. The Stone IPA is a little cheaper than is the Resin, the Rumination is more expensive than the Resin, and also comes in 4 packs verses 6, also available in magnums,

it is awesome.

I'm not 100% certain, but I don't think they charge tax on wine and spirits in RI, or that was my interpretation from a sign in the package store. The thing is here you have to go into a package store to by booze. In Florida, you could buy it in any market or convenience store. I guess it's from those old Blue Laws from the 17th century, or whatever. :P Thou shall not curse nor be flatulent in public on a Sunday or ye shall receive 50 lashes and put in the stockades. Stuff like that. :P

The thing about the Hi-Res that comes in 4 packs is I didn't miss the other two, too much. Talk about a kick on that one. I was a little apprehensive of buying it at first because of that, but in the end I didn't feel short changed. It did it's job.
