It's no secret that Fender instruments are made to be modded—we read about your hot-rodded axes all the time right here in the forums.

We would like to share some of your Fender guitar or bass mod stories on fender.com and across our social outlets. Also, if you live in Phoenix or Los Angeles areas, we will be picking a few people to come talk about mod(s) on camera.

Please email your mod stories to share@fender.com to be considered, and be sure to include the following information in your reply. (Excluding any fields may make it difficult for us to feature your content)
First Name:
Last Name (optional):
Phone Number (optional):
City (optional)/State or Province/Country:
Photos/Videos of Your Mod(s):
Your "Mod Story" (What mods have you made and why? What, if any, tonal qualities/sound were you searching for when making the mods?):

Participation does not guarantee your submission will be featured by Fender. By contributing to this thread with a submission, you are giving Fender permission to use your story and any media provided in marketing materials. In providing us with your Submission, you are representing and warranting to Sponsor that your Submission is your own work, which can be and is being freely given to Sponsor, and that you have the unqualified right and ability to submit it to Sponsor for use in relation to the Contest. I am a re-beginner of the guitar. I bought a packaged deal online from a shop in Texas about 3 years ago. It is a Fender FA-100 (black). I have been trying to learn Country Gospel and some Contemporary Worship music for my own enjoyment and hopefully to play in church some day.

I think I have had good success with this guitar but I am looking to take the next step and purchase a better quality Acoustic Electric. Fender has so many options to choose from so I am am not sure what is right for me. I watch a lot of YouTube stuff trying to sift through features and options. I am also looking at the electrical aspects of pick-up and amplifiers. The Chorus feature looks and sounds attractive to me for a "wet sound".

I thought you'd never ask. No, really. I thought you'd never ask because previously I had read this on the Fender site.
Fender® Amplifier Modification

View products this article applies to ...
Problem Description
Can you tell me how to mod my amp?
Solution
Fender's amplifier R&D department has designed scores of iconic amplifiers that have changed the landscape of western music. All of our amplifiers pass rigid NEMCO and CSA safety standards. Any modification, no matter how slight, will both void your warranty and nullify any safety rating. We understand that you'd like to make some modifications to your amplifier, however, due to liability concerns; we may not assist you directly with any advice or support to perform a modification to any existing Fender electronic product. Please check with your local amplifier service center for assistance if you wish to perform mods to your amplifier.
So I was surprised to hear this announcement. If you post the mods, isn't that advice and support?
Do your parents know what you kids are doing on the internet?

If you can get their OK, I do have a few interesting amp mods that I consider proprietary that I can share with y'all. Or is it just for guitars?
I can't and don't want to do these mods to every HRDX on the planet. So, if I can get them peer reviewed and share them, I'd be willing to do that.

Just get a permission slip from your legal department and I'll download them when I get home from Montana in a few days.

If so, then why is it so hard to get documentation about specific models from Fender?

I completely tore down and re-built a Blacktop Strat. Updated every part on the thing. It's incredible now.

This started out as a '91 MIM Strat. I swapped out the neck for a
7.25" radius and then changed the tuners, pickups, block and cosmetics.
Pardon the photo quality. It's a screamer! :D

I could literally write a book!

What I don't understand about the OP's request is, why he simply doesn't review many of our posts. Here alone, he'd have more information than he'd know what to do with.

While it isn't my most complex project, my greatest pride and joy is and will always be, The Fratocaster. The long time crowd know all about it. The newer crowd can search on it (if they're interested.) As a matter of fact, I have it stipulated in my will that it is to remain in my family as an heirloom and legacy, to be passed down through the generations, never to be parted with.

I am getting ready for a full on mod project of my recent model Squier Affinity Jazz bass in Burgundy Mist Metallic.

The mods will be.
#1. Full shielding job using copper foil.
#2. Swap Affinity pickups with Vintage Modified Duncan Designed pickups.
#3. Swap stamped steel L bracket bridge with Classic Vibe 60s High Mass bridge with brass saddles.
#4. Swap white pickguard with tort guard.
#5. Paint headstock face to match body color.
#6. Swap OE decal, to OE type decal with fully spelled out Squier by Fender Jazz Bass. (OE says J-Bass).
#7. Simple rubber "Beer Bottle Fliptop Gasket" strap locking devices from my local brewers supply house.
#8. Custom block inlay decals over the dots.
