Mike: thanks for the response, and best of luck to you Monday and Tuesday! You'll be in our thoughts.

Regarding the fundraising component, sounds like we're cleared for takeoff -- let me get the details solidified on this end and will start a new "sticky" thread early next week on this topic.

Thanks Brad, and all, I must have been typing my last post as you posted right before I submitted it.

Mike,

I am so glad this is coming together. Man, all you have to do is let your family and friends do what they can for you. This is your time to get through, recover and be well!

As many have said, we are all behind you on this. And I know you would have done the same if it were someone else.

Peace my friend!

Thanks Barry and Brad and to all for the positive vibe and comments. I did the chemo-training today and I think that once I get into a routine, I'll be okay. The side effects are different for everyone, but they told me that fatigue would be the major one. I'm actually tired from just the training that I got today!
:?
One of the patients was kind enough to show me his mediport. I'll be having one put in tomorrow. This should save a lot of veins from nurses looking for good ones to stick a needle in. I'll be getting the dual port model (larger target to hit) and then I'll have approx another 2 weeks to heal up before the chemo treatments start. They gave me a lot of info on how to handle and what to do about side effects, infections and other things that might occur.

The main thing that they stressed was that this is a curative approach with a 95% winning track record. It is treatable and beatable and I'm gonna kick it's can. Positive thinking along with a side of hope and courage is going to get me through this.

I'm hoping to set an example and encourage anyone who is near or at the age of having "the test" to get checked out. Early detection is the key to being cured.

Thanks again for everyone's well wishes and positive comments!

Thanks again. Just got home from the hospital. All went well and from what I understand, these medi-port implants are the "new" way to go.

http://www.cdirad.com/tabid/363/Default.aspx

Had a little problem with one of the incisions for the tube port, where it enters the vein near the collar bone, so they tunneled it through to the front part near the collar bone.

My port is on my right side, upper chest area (kind of glad compared to above heart) and the sedatives and local anesthetic made me real tired.
They said go home and rest for 48 hours, so now I'm going to do just that.
No pain whatsoever....so far.

Well....until the sedation wore off. Actually, it's tolerable with just some tylenol.

If it goes as my previous surgery, it should get better each day. :)
