Wellllllll... my girlfriend is pregnant and we've decided to keep it.

I'm happy as hell about it! I've got a minivan, a connection for a possible plumbing or HVAC job, a good room setup for a nursery, and most importantly, support.

Baby shower is in August. She's 7 weeks along now. I bough a stuffed animal today, a fox that winds up and plays a lulluby.

Cheers guys.

You don't actually have a job, and you think you are ready for a child?

The average cost of having a baby delivered is $9,700 (far more if caesarian is needed or there are complications). Even if she should have insurance, the co-pay will be far more than pocket change. Then average expenses for the first year is $12,000 - raising steadily as the kid gets older to close to $18,000 as the kid nears college age, and then the costs skyrocket if you want to give it a good start. The support you feel you have may turn sour if they end up having to bear much of this.
She's your girlfriend, not a life partner? The chance of you still living with her at the time the child turns 18 is around 18%. Most of the 82% probably thought that they were going to beat the odds and that love would last. Do you feel lucky?

If you truly feel you are ready for this commitment, and that the kid will get a good start in life, congratulations! I'll raise a glass to the three of you.

What parent can honestly say they were fully prepared for child rearing?

All the best, Jim!

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Yes, I currently have a job in food/service and I'm always working odd jobs for extra cash. I also never said I was fully prepared. No one can be fully prepared for a child. Every person comes out with a different mind, and any number of variables in genetic/medical history could play a role in who you end up creating.

I'm sorry I'm happy to have something to live for and felt like sharing what's good news to me.

Congratulations. Try to remember to enjoy the little moments. As others have said, they go so fast. Best of luck to your new family!

I'll say congrats to you, and good luck. You're definitely going to need it. Trust me on that one. It won't be easy, but you can make it if the bond is strong enough between all involved. I'm not trying to be negative, but let's say I've been familiar with your situation and it didn't end well at all. Hopefully, that won't happen to you.

Thanks guys, we don't have an official report on gender yet, as it's too early. But we did 2 home methods and they both are in line with it being a boy.

The first was which side the placenta forms on, and during the first sonogram she said it was on the right. This is called "Ramsey's" method. The scientist who conducted the experiment on over 5,000 patients found that the placenta would be on the right 97% of the time for a boy.

The other was baking soda in pee. It got all fizzy

Absolutely! Sometimes I still feel unprepared and I've been at it since 2003

Congrats Buxom! Best to you and future family. We just had a baby boy 3 weeks ago. he's in a house full of girls so looking forward to getting him set up with some guitars and a jam room for us one day.

Good luck.
