I've only been using this amp for about two weeks, and some of its inconsistencies have me baffled.

1. When I change from one preset to the next, the difference in volume can be tremendous--from quite loud to very quite. This is without my adjusting any of the controls myself. Am I doing something wrong here?

2. I also experience this with some of the presets that I have downloaded. Although I find this more understandable, I'm wondering if this is typical in other users' experience.

3. I've had some troubles getting the downloads into my "media library." It seems that sometimes they show up there, and other times they don't. Would someone be kind enough to give me a step by step instruction on this?

4. As always, thanks for everyone's help. I want to get back to playing my first electric guitar, and spending less time learning how to play the amp.

No, the initial volume is on the preset. You can adjust it and then save it back

2. I also experience this with some of the presets that I have downloaded. Although I find this more understandable, I'm wondering if this is typical in other users' experience.

Same as above

Make sure your are downloading them into the correct folder

I hope this helps! :)

No, that's Fender's fault. The first thing literally every Mustang owner will do is go through the presets and level the volume so it doesn't jump like crazy when switching. I really don't understand why Fender didn't do this once when creating the factory presets.

That's entirely up to you. You don't need to master every aspect of the various presets in order to play your first electric guitar. Select a preset and play. Downloading, storing, switching presets won't make you a better player...practice will. Over time you'll master all the things the amp can do.

yea it's a well known PITA on these amps..

for example the twin clean presets are always way lower than some of the others.

I do agree that if some volume leveling could have helped, but let's face it, you're going to tweak the presets anyway.

My best guess is all 100 factory installed presets weren't created by the same person. Why they didn't have someone sit there and 'level them' all to each other? Who knows, maybe it would have driven up the cost of the amp. I know if I had been assigned the task, my first question would have been "Leveled for what? Bedroom playing or with a band?"

There is more than one way to download presets. Are you using the FUSE website here  Link, or downloading them directly from within the Fender FUSE software? I can give you step-by-step for your preferred method...

Also, note, there is a Fender FUSE section of the forums here  Link and a section for Fender Mustang amps here  Link

Same with Peavey. Have to level out the post gain on the presets. Well, the ones I use anyway. They all seem to use the "more is better" mentality even if a few hundred presets are worthless.

Does it matter? That can be adjusted by turning the master volume knob one way or the other.
So the simple answer would have been "I don't care, as long as they are all leveled the same".

When I balance my presets for band use, and then try them at home, my clean sounds are too quiet. YMMV.

That's strange. It should make no difference whether you level the preset volume to (e.g.) 7 and turn the master to 2, or level the presets to 4 and turn the master to 5. That's what I meant - as long as the presets are balanced equally, you can control the total volume with the master knob.

This is what I'm saying:

LIVE USE:
Clean VOLUME @ 3
"Dirty" VOLUME @ 5
Lead tone VOLUME @ 7

HOME USE:
Clean VOLUME @ 5
"Dirty" VOLUME @ 5
Lead tone VOLUME @ 7

Changing the MASTER when you get home won't make your clean sound louder (from 3-5) while leaving your lead tone the same (7). If you turn the MASTER up, both the clean and the lead sounds will become louder.

I just found in my experience the setting I use when playing with a band don't work at home.

This is really confusing to me because I never experience what you're referring to, but it's not clear to me what you're referring to when you say your clean volume is at 3 while your dirty volume is at 5 and lead volume is at 7. Are these references to the channel volume on that preset? And if so are these all three the same amp models or are they different amp models.

The relative volume of all of my presets change equally when I change my master volume, but I have to pay special attention to the channel volumes on each preset because each amp model is slightly different in how the channel volumes act. For example a channel volume of 10 on the Princeton amp model is no where near as loud as 10 on the Marshall amp model...even if the master volume stays the same. I assume that's because they're trying to model the behavior consistent with the way the modeled amp behaves.

Therefore, if I have a clean channel that's based on Princeton I may have the channel volume set at 9 in order to be equal to a crunchy channel I have set up using the Vox which might have the channel volume set to 6 or 7 in order to have roughly the same overall volume. My lead volumes aren't controlled by the preset, but by the effect (overdrive, power boost, etc) that I apply on that preset channel. But that stays at a consistent volume relative to all others as long as the base presets have had their volume levels worked out.

How does that differ from how you set up your channels, because I'm really confused by how you described them.

"3,5 and 7" were just an example because you weren't understanding me. And I don't think I can break down the concept to be any more simple than that.

Right. That's what the MASTER does, it changes the overall volume of the amp, so the relative volume between presets changes equally when you adjust the MASTER.

What I'm saying is when playing with my full band (drums, bass, keyboard, and 4 vocalists) I have to juice up my lead sounds a little to "get over the mix". But when I return home, set my amp at a comfortable volume, and switch from my clean sound to my lead sound, there is a huge volume jump, because I have my lead tone set to "get over" a band that is no longer there. So why not just turn the MASTER down? Because it turns ALL the presets down, including my clean tone which was at a comfortable volume for the room.

Okay, I think I get what you're saying now. I guess I don't really experience it because I always embed my lead tone within my preset. So if I'm working on a clean setting I'll use my stomp effect to give me the boost I need to get over the rest of the band (4 singers, harmonica, two guitars, bass and drums). It might not be as much of a problem for me because I typically don't need that much of a boost...somewhere around 4 or 5 db generally does it. We always have a sound guy so he can correct it if it's getting buried, just as long as everyone on stage can hear it. I can see if you need more to stand out in the mix where it could be a problem.
