Had the extreme pleasure of hearing the Mike Eldred Trio play Sunday night at Malarkey's in Long Beach. Been following them on Facebook trying to catch a time when they came to town for quite a while, and dang if they didn't play a free show at 4 p.m. on a Sunday just down the street. The first song began with just Mike on his Espanada through a Super Reverb and it was downright downhomesy. It was good to be able to just hear his guitar all by it's lonesome blues. Full and gripping tone coming through. Then the band came in with John Bazz on bass and Jerry Angel on drums. John really grabs dem strings and pulls the sound right out of them and Jerry is solid, tight, and right there in the pocket. They even had Kid Ramos come up for a few and he switched between a Strat and a Tele. Both cut through excellently with clarity and brilliance that let his solos shine. What a night! Definitely worth the wait. And I'll definitely be going back as Malarkey's has free blues every Sunday at 4 p.m. What's not to like? Checkin' out Smokin' Joe Kubik and Bnois King there next week. Cheers!

Lucky you Brian ! Glad that you enjoyed the show. I will check out their facebook page and see if a visit to Chicagoland is on the schedule. 8)

Cadillac Zak usually books the Sunday acts from Malarkey's, to do a show by me on Monday night, in Tarzana. But not this week. I would have gone last night if it had been Mike and Kid Ramos. Glad you got to see a good show. Zak keeps a pretty good flow of talent doing his shows at Malarkey's, Sunday, and the Maui Sugar Mill, Monday. Jimmy Vivino is pretty much a regular, you should catch him one day.

Awesome! I've been following them on line, too. I wish I still lived down in the Southwest. I'd make a point to catch them. Bazz is one of my favorite bassists. He has absolutely killer P tone.

Mike is fantastic. I try to go see the Trio every opportunity I can get ... saw 'em here in Phoenix a few weeks back opening for The Blasters and it was a great show!
