I have to admit to ignorance about most things Guild. I have played a couple of vintage and modern Guild acoustics and I'm intrigued by the old funky solidbody electric that had the kickstand in the back (S-200 Thunderbird?), but overall, I just haven't had the opportunity to play/experience/learn to love Guild as a brand.

However, I had the opportunity to play an interesting Telecaster the other day; it was a (new) Modern Player Short Scale Telecaster.

First of all--the body was slightly smaller than a standard Tele, and it (as the name indicates) had a short-scale neck on it. The neck was nice and beefy all the way up...although, it didn't go far up enough (I am not a fan of short-scale guitars...at all).

The weight was well-balanced, and the guitar played very well (short-scale neck notwithstanding). It also had a Thinline-style pickguard. Very cool visuals.

The bridge pickup was waaaaaay too shrill (more so than the brightest Teles I've heard), even through a couple different amps and various setting of the tone knob(s) on the guitar and amp...but the neck pickup was what made my ears perk up...

It was a Guild Anti-Hum Dual-Coil Pickup. I have never played through one of these little machines, but I was very, very impressed.

With a few notable exceptions, (Pearly Gates, mini-Humbuckers a la the Gibson Firebird and certain Epiphones) I have never been a huge fan of humbucking pickups. I like them in other people's guitars (Billy Gibbons is one of my favorites of all time), but humbuckers just don't work with my fingers. This may be due to my Fender-phile tendencies, but nevertheless...

This particular Guild Anti-Hum Dual-Coil pickup had a fat, harmonically rich and crunchy quality that reminded me of a P-90 (my favorite pickup ever in the history of ever) on steroids. With varying doses of overdrive, it quickly veered into Black Keys territory; with some heavy distortion, I was visiting Jack White territory (these are good things, IMHO). Cleaned up (without overdrive or distortion) this pickup exuded a nice fat and punchy tone, kinda like Tab Benoit or BFG's tone on "She Loves My Automobile"...there wasn't a whole lot of jangle, but there was enough high-end and chime that the tone only seemed muddy when I turned the guitar's tone knob all the way to zero.

I tried it through two different amps (one of the Silverface Deluxe Reverb reissues and a Super Sonic 22) and was suitably impressed with both. Sounded great with both straight and slide technique.

Here are my questions about the Guild Anti-Hum Dual-Coil pickup:

-Is the current (modern) interpretation of this particular pickup accurate to the older/vintage versions?

-Are these pickups available as an aftermarket replacement?

-Has anyone had any experience with these particular pickups?

Jason Lollar winds some nice P90's. Might want to check out his website.

I've been thinking about getting an Epi Wildkat and a pair of his P90's to put in it.

Not sure which humbucker it was, but if it was a vintage HB-1, then I'm not surprised you were impressed. These are highly sought after and getting harder to find. The current ones are not the same. They're not bad, but they don't match HB-1's.
The guitars in the 90's and afterwards had for the most part Duncan SD-1's in them, and some models like the S-300 had Dimarzios, which are good pups, but again, not as good as HB-1's.
Here's some history, and you can find plenty more by googling.
