The first record album I purchased was Anita Ward, ring my bell   , and before you all go hysterical and die of laughter allow me to explain.

Growing up with no brothers and three sisters tends to do strange things to a boy. My musical influences of the time were limited to what my oldest sister was listening too, disco, thus Ring My Bell. Although I'm not ashamed to reveal this to ya'll, I quickly redeemed myself with my second album.....Ozzy Osbourn Blizzard of Oz. Needless to say, I never looked back. That album started my journey into the realm of Rock & Roll and disco became a thing of the past. Thank you Ozzy. :D

So what was your first 8 track, album, cd, etc.? :D :D

Probably a Ventures album that I don't have anymore. I remember buying this one by James Brown in late '65:

I still have this album somewhere. The album jacket was lost at a party). The opening track is "I feel good" and the song Night Train is on it as well. It is in another artists album jacket though, in a big box of about 1k albums in my sisters garage.

My first purchased record was a 45 RPM, Hound Dog by Elvis Presley in the late 1950's. (yeah I am that old) I was in high school at the time.

My Dad was a master electrician in the Navy as well as a great guitar player. Chuck Atkins(Chet's cousin) used to own a music store and subcontracted work out to my Dad so a few weekends a month my brother and I would help my Dad load up the van with all the stuff he had fixed and we would head to the shop. After we got the van unloaded Chuck would let my brother and I pick out a 45 then we would load the van up with a fresh batch of broken gear to be fixed. At today's prices one load of those vintage amps and Echoplexes would set me up for awhile! Some of those amps took both of us to move.

Think my first 45 was City of New Orleans and my brother got Crocodile Rock(this was mid 70's). The last record I bought before switching to cassette was Eagles Greatest Hits album.

The Battle of New Orleans by Johnny Horton, which was released in 1959. I still remember all the words.

I remember that tune, Kenny. Great song!

The first record I ever bought was Jimmy Dean's 45 single "PT109", which was prolly in 1962. My first album was "Meet The Beatles" shortly after Capitol released it (I believe that was in early 1964).

Some good ones listed here already. I remember listening to my dad's records of Johnny Horton and Jimmy Dean's "PT109." First 45 I bought was "Keep on Smiling" by Wet Willie. Still a great song. I liked it at first because they used the word "hell."

You're just hanging out
In a local bar
And you're wondering
Who the hell you are
Are you a bummer?
Are you a star?

Smile on through the rain
Laugh on through the pain...
That advice still rings true today.

My first LP was Elton John, "Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player", then Aerosmith, "Toys in the Attic", that one I played so much I destroyed it.

First record I ever personally purchased (not a gift) was the 45 of "Should I Stay or Should I go" by The Clash in 1982. I was 8 and used my allowance to buy it at our local record shop. I had been turned on to The Clash at 5 when my cousin gave me a copy of London Calling. (which I still have and still play.) My girlfriend who is 7 years my junior makes fun of me for still buying vinyl, and having never stopped. I don't know. There's just something about a record.
