The band I just joined plays in Drop C, so I need to find correct strings to play that. I am exclusive to 5-string, so I need a string set light enough to tune to C,G,C,F,A.

The bass is 34-inch scale.

What string gauges would I need?

I think that would really be more to your preferences (I prefer light gauge strings, but I also play on short scale 4 strings at standard tuning,) but I've understood that if you're tuning down, you get better stability with heavier gauge strings. What brand of strings do you like usually?

I use D'Addario 45 - 130. Of course, that is for B-Standard. They are much too heavy to tune up to C,G,C,F,A.

That said, I am open to other brands if D'Addario does not have strings light enough for this job.

I found that D'Addario has these in a lighter gauge for a 5-string: https://www.daddario.com/products/guita ... ong-scale/ They aren't the half round ones that you showed me, though.

Not being half round does not really matter at the moment. As long as that 40-125 set is capable of tuning up to C,G,C,F,A, it is worth looking into.
