**RE-WRITTEN, REARRANGED FOR PIANO**

This folk ballad was originally written on acoustic guitar back in the late 70's, and put away for probably 40 years. It wasn't until recently, when I found it in a pile of all my songs, sheet music, notes, etc... Instead of continuing with the John Denver-ish acoustic guitar theme in the key of "D", I sat down at my Yamaha DGX-505 and "translated" the guitar chords to keyboard, and also reworked it a little more to enhance the natural sound of a piano (strings/dual voice in background). To keep the proper time, I enabled the built in percussion at a 4/4 ballad tempo at 76bpm.

My voice is shaky in the video, as I was incredibly nervous. Talk about "wearing your heart on your sleeve" as the saying goes! What do you think of it?

Here's the lyrics from 1978/1979 or so, back when I was a senior in high school....

When it's late at night and I'm wishing on a star
I'm just wondering, wondering how far
I could go with this thing called love
It's a feeling that's deep in my heart
I want to tell you but just, where do I start?
I guess the best place is to tell you in a song
----------------------CHORUS---------------------------------
Do you really know how much I love you?
I need your love to keep me strong
Let's build our dreams together
Start a new life forever
Oh, won't you go with me?
Down the road less traveled
Down the road less traveled
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I had a dream, you know, just the other night
It was a sweet dream about you and I
We were walking along a quiet country road
Sharing our feelings, our laughter, and our tears
And getting to know each other and overcoming our fears
I hope the stars above will make my dream come true
----------------------CHORUS---------------------------------
Do you really know how much I love you?
I need your love to keep me strong
Let's build our dreams together
Start a new life forever
Oh, won't you go with me?
Down the road less traveled
Down the road less traveled
...fade out in the end...

Also, in case anyone needs the chords or anything like that. here you go. Maybe "translate" it back from piano, back onto an acoustic guitar.

Intro: D, Dmaj7, D7, G, Gm, D, Em, A, and back to D.

(simple strumming pattern)
D..............Dmaj7.........................G...................Gm....
When it's late at night and I'm wishing on a star
D............Dmaj7.........G........................Gm....
I'm just wondering, wondering how far
D.......Dmaj7.............G..................Gm....
I could go with this thing called love
D......Dmaj7............G..................Gm....
It's a feeling that's deep in my heart
D..............A...........................G................A.....
I want to tell you but just, where do I start?
D.................A........................G...........A......D..D7
I guess the best place is to tell you in a song

----------------------CHORUS---------------------------------

G.....................A..............................D......D7
Do you really know how much I love you?
G..................A...........................D....D7
I need your love to keep me strong
G........................A.........................
Let's build our dreams together
D..........A............G.........D..G
Start a new life forever
G......................A................(piano arpeggio/riff in A)
Oh, won't you go with me?
...................................D, D/C bass, D/B bass, (finger picked) Bb, C, D (strummed)
Down the road less traveled
...................................D, D/C bass, D/B bass, (finger picked) Bb, C, D (strummed)
Down the road less traveled

etc...etc...etc...

Nice one, Butch! Well done.

Mike, "Blue Mood" is amazing. It can take you places if you close your eyes and listen. 8)

Thank you!

I posted the You Tube video, posted the whole lyrics, and the chord progressions, so in the event anyone wants to take my song and play it somewhere, sometime, as a very slow tempo "coffee house" type of setting, they can use it all they want. Maybe introduce it to the audience, "This song is from a guy I know, who wrote it, like, 40 years ago when he was in high school. He put it aside, thinking it wasn't that good, and then here we are 40 years later and he re-discovered it, and decided to pass it along to other singer/songwriters".

I put up this easy 3 chord backer this morning for anyone to jam with :

https://soundcloud.com/mikeb60/slow-country-backer

A few hours later, I jammed over it here : (Tele into Apogee Jam into GarageBand)

https://soundcloud.com/mikeb60/country-jambo

Please feel free to download the backing track and post your jam over it here. :D

That's very cool, Butch. Thanks

Mike, that backing track sounds great!

I am going to download it and then bring it up in Audacity and (hopefully) record a Mandolin playing the game C, F, G, chord pattern. Then after that, I am thinking of trying to come up with a fiddle part, and will play a melody on my grandmother's violin and see how that sounds.

Some of the takes from my music sites (so far):

I really like to hear how everyone interprets the backing track and
comes up with their own 'take' on it. 8)

Another excellent one, Mike. I noticed that you have 553 songs. How the heck did you ever create so many? And they're all good. That's amazing, to me. I'm still working on my first few.
Pretty soon you’ll need a vault like Elvis and Prince to store those collectables you worked on, and for your unreleased material, Mike. It’s not only that you can crank them out; but, they're good to boot.

Liked your Summer Surf. Kowabunga. We be hangin’10 on that one.

Bars and Cars. That was unique with it’s own flavour. We all try to give it our own stamp, but it’s not easy to succeed. You certainly did with this one, Mike. Cool. 8)
Sorry, I was late for the party here. Soundcloud didn’t give me Funky Friday and the bluesy one; but, I know they rocked.

Nice taste with the noodles.

I liked the country backtracks, pardner. Makes me want to hop on the saddle, if I could get up there anymore, and ride off into the sunset or tip my Stetson by the campfire.

Thanks, for posting the takes, Mike. The gang did a great job adding their creativity and performance. While I mellowed during the playbacks I thought of my uncle who had a Fender lap steel through a Fender amp, and I thought, “Wouldn't a lap steel sound great with that backing track?” Lo and behold the last link did just that. If my music loving uncle were here today I’m sure he’d agree with me that it does sound great, and he’d think the other mixes were great too. :D
