Somewhere in the Oklahoma Panhandle I stopped in a nameless town to get a soda. There was an old-fashioned ice shack with a cute young girl waiting with her boyfriend by the chute for their ice to come out. It was a blistering hot day. I caught that one moment when they both smiled and looked at each other with equal parts love and lust and it seemed like the sweetest thing! So I wrote this song in my mind while driving on and recorded it while sitting on the edge of a bed in another anonymous motel room…

That’ll get the drip drops rolling down the forehead wetting the brows and on through the lashes into one’s eyes.

Good stuff, Mark. :D

Another raw recording from an anonymous motel room, somewhere between Tucson and Detroit.

Recording King Dirty 30's parlor guitar and Tascam DP-008EX

Is that Tascam pretty easy to operate, or do you have to learn any programming, scrolling a lot of menus, or any of that crap you have to do with digital gear?

Heya, Mark. I’ve seen plenty of those lone trees here on the prairies. Great concept.

Which vocal mic are you using? It sounds very transparent. Nice.

Very cool autumn piece, Alex.

I could visualize a colourful leaf alone floating up and down, swirling about, and traveling side to side in a gentle wind over a concrete jungle of city landscape. 8)

Thanks PualLF!

the tascam has a bit of a learning curve, but once you get the basics down, it's a very nice little multitrack recorder. The physical layout is great for layering tracks! If you wanted to do full mixing and mastering on it, it'd be a little difficult with the menus etc., but for just roughing out a song and getting a quick sense of where the mix will go, it's great! I like it much more than trying to do everything through the computer. Also, while an extra step, I export my tracks and then do the final work in Reaper on my PC. Best!

Thanks, FSB!!!

I used a pair of Samson C02 condenser mics for these recordings. I like the way they allow me to isolate my vocals from my guitar. If I do separate tracks, my AT2035 is better for vocals, but these little cheapies are really pretty nice! :)

Thanks for the reply. Mark. I wasn’t sure, but I thought those C02s might have been the culprits. Pretty good result at that price. IMHO
