Shouldn't you be doing something useful......like polishing the chandeliers in the Kremlin or lobbying the politburo to change the name of St. Petersburg back to Leningrad?

Go pound sand.

Because we're absolutely stark raving mad! :P Seriously though, why do artists use more than one brush? It's the having the right tools for the job (that's what she said. :P ) Yeah, I can also question wanting to have 20 guitars of the same model and same colour (I've seen that a few times, but then again it could be for collective purposes,) but whatever floats your boat. If that helps you create, then so be it. I have 8 basses and 3 guitars, but none of them are the same. Some of them need repair, so they're aren't useful right now, anyway. If I can ever get them fixed, that would be good. Who knows when I'll get around to do that? :P At least my amps are in working order (knock on wood.)

I used to have a whole bunch more gear than I have now. One day about 6 years ago I was looking at it all and decided to cull the herd and be more resistant to GAS. I had 9 amps, 2 acoustics, 16 electrics, a bass and about 120 or so pedals. I sold 3 amps, 11 guitars and about 80 or so pedals. I went down to what I thought was the essentials only. That began to creep up again albeit much more slowly than before so recently I sold a bunch more stuff again. 2 bass amps, some speakers, some low end tubes for amps I no longer had but were still hanging around and at least a dozen pedals.

I now have 5 electrics, 2 acoustics, 2 basses, 4 amps and maybe 30 or so pedals. Pedals are my weakness. They come and go. I like to try pretty much anything just to see if I find it useful. These days I concentrate on quality over quantity.

Definitely. We won't get into my pedal collection... Not nearly as big as yours, and I stick to the basics- no funky or weird stuff- but one can only use so many at one time, right? For whatever reason, chorus pedals REALLY like to go home with me. Like you, though I cut way back and am concentrating on high quality stuff that I just Gotta have. My short list right now is an Aqua $@!& and a '69 fuzz.

My former GF wouldn't find it sexist.
She was quite proud of her closet full of 150+ pairs of shoes.
Not cheap-os either.

But Arjay does have a valid analogy.
If I had the money, and guitars (and amps and pedals) were significantly less expensive,
heck yeah, I'd have Jaguars, and Jazzmasters, and Mustangs,
and Gibsons, and Gretches, and PRSs, and...
Sure, I'd play them and display them.

Sometimes, the enthusiasm spills over into just the joy of collecting them.
It goes beyond anything I can describe to hold and appreciate a variety of equipment
and to consider their unique craftsmanship
and enjoy their unique sounds, including an occasional quirk in their personalities.

Hey if the individual has the disposable income to buy the guitars so be it. Who am I to judge that. I've got 8 and likely will add to and subtract from that over time.

I agree with the poster "if I could I would have 1 of each and every guitar" but in my case I would want a back-up for each and every one lol. I have a precision bass and a precision bass for back-up, a Stratocaster and a super Strat for its back-up, a five string bass and I'm working on another five string to back-up that. Gear is the guilty pleasure IMHO YMMV (to quote my favorite Martian)

I'm not married. Haven't been married for over 20 years. I do date though so I see a few closets and I can promise you there are TONS of wimmin out there with far far more than a paltry 50 pairs of shoes. Arjay's comment was neither sexist nor dated. Simple reality.

Because, like I said, I already have one of each base models I like, and I find myself playing the Strat 90% of the time anyway.

Maybe it was the "Dame" part that was found to be offensive? My niece collects shoes and boots the way we collect guitars. And she is just as proud of them.

I hear you. Sometimes GAS wants me to buy something out of the ordinary but I have much more control over GAS when I remind myself how often I choose a Strat over whatever else is available to me. I can't tell you how many times I've acquired some really nice LP, PRS, some kind of semi-hollow or whatever, only to get rid of it later because I never play it.
