I know, not a guitar hero. But I had the chance to perform on the same cruise with her a couple of years ago. She did an interview while on the cruise and I watched it in my cabin. Her story was very interesting, and she seemed like a really cool lady. Definitely a 60's free spirit. She had "been there and done that". Lesley was 16 years old when she recorded "It's My Party" in 1963, so you can just imagine the long strange trip. A lot of people don't know she co-wrote songs for the soundtrack of the movie 'Fame' along with her brother Michael Gore. R.I.P. Lesley Gore.

I didn't know she was lesbian, although nothing wrong with that.

About a gazillion years ago, at the height of her popularity, some people I knew had friends in Tenafly NJ who were neighbors of the Gores. I was asked if I was interested in dating her. It never happened. I'm thinking now that I understand why.

Yeah, I heard about that yesterday, too. Bummed out, since I'm a fan of hers as well as a lot of pop/rock music from the mid 60's. :(

Roger that! My brother-n-law sent me a link to an article on the loss of Sam Andrew. I reminded him that this year was NOT 1965. Andrew was 73 years old. A year older than I. My brother-n-law is 60. Fifty years have flown!

Another in a long line of huge talents mentored from an early age by Quincy Jones. She had a few "almost" moments. Almost won an Oscar (for her "FAME" music), almost had a #1 but was blocked by the Beatles and got stuck at #2. Had no idea she was a lesbian, and furthermore I don't care anymore about that than her religion (Jewish) or whether she was a dog or cat person, (dog person.) I just liked her voice and it was very distinctive. Especially liked "California Nights" and "You Don't Own Me." In 2013, in the summer I think, Cousin Brucie was doing a live broadcast on his satellite fed show and she sang a few songs live. Her voice was quite raspy, but she was on pitch. Anyone else remember her appearance on "BATMAN" with Adam West?

I remember as a little boy, seeing her on Batman as " Kitten " ,who was a sidekick to the Catwoman . Not exactly Oscar caliber acting but to a then 7 year old kid, she was the cat's meow ( ouch ! ) " You Don't Own Me " was I believe , one of the if not, the 1st women's lib anthem. To me, it still holds up to this day . She should've been in the R 'N'R HOF a long time ago IMO. RIP Ms Gore.

My sis was more into her than me back in the day (she bought the records), but always high on my list. "You don't own me" her best I think. Also liked "Maybe I know". BBC had history of pop series few years back and talked about that groundbreaking song. Found it interesting that they said a couple of guys wrote it. Nothing wrong with that, either....
