So that's the rationale that proggies use to justify not calling out that little punk Algore for the eastern seaboard being buried in snow.

"Ironic"? I'd call that MORONIC.

Yes, not understanding that global warming causes more evaporation in some areas, which then leads to more precipitation elsewhere is rather moronic, I fully agree.

I remember it "snowed" once in Florida. It was in 1978, I believe. I just moved down there from Virginia I was around 6 years old. That was also the only time I was on a jet, too. Eastern Airlines.

I wish nobody ever said 'global warming' because that's only part of what's going on, and people have been using that term to paint people who are concerned with climate change as "looney bins' ever since.

The term that should have been used from the beginning is 'Global Climate Change'. And meaning on the grand scale - not just that it's awfully cold for a July day.

Ok, after all the smug comments that were made about the cold in the north, now it's our turn. Overnight lows in the Tampa Bay area will be in the lower 30's. I know to you up north that is a heat wave, but to us it will be miserable!

I just heard a radio program that said that a few days of freezing temperatures a year would be a good thing for the Florida fauna because invasive species (like tropical tree frogs and tropical lizards) will be far harder hit than native species.
Probably not such a good thing for farmers, though.

It was 1977, I moved here in 2002 and they are still talking about it! One of the malls here had a display of news paper front pages from historic dates in Tampa history and "The "snow of 1977" was one of them.

Eastern Air lines, I remember them, along with Piedmont, Ozark, Pan Am, TWA....

You should've been here in 1978 when we had " The Blizzard " which people are still talking about to this day. Our state of Rhode island was pretty much crippled from it. I remember snow drifts that were at least 6-8 feet high. People were using sleds and whatever they could to get supplies to people who needed them. Back then , people actually worked together to help each other out and didn't make a fuss about it.

My girlfriend's Grandmother, who lives in North Providence, is still freaked out by that blizzard. I think she was stranded by it, from what was said. They just showed a program on PBS about it the other day. Speaking of which, we were there last night and they certainly seemed to have gotten a lot more snow than here in Newport. At least it was piled higher in the neighborhoods.

Well, I was close. :P I remember seeing it, though. That was rather strange.

The debate tends to get more notice during times of extremes.

I'm actually more fearful of the un-predictability of solar activity.

A record low of -8 F for Chicagoland this morning. Topped the -7 F in 1896. I wonder if 90% of the scientists back then called it climate change or the jolly 'green' giants excessive flatulence  Wait, Mr. Gore isn't that old is he ?

Local weather is not the same as global climate.

What happens is that in warmer areas, the warm air raises, and pulls in air from elsewhere, in this case on the Eastern seaboard, from the arctic. Which makes the arctic spring arrive earlier than usual, and the Eastern seaboard colder than usual.

And right now, Alaska is experiencing temperatures 40 degrees above what's normal.

Global climate change predicts that we will see more extremes in both hot and cold weather, and guess what? That's exactly what we're seeing.

When an object mass the size of earth spins on its axis at 1037 miles/hr and orbits the sun at 65,992 mph the gravitational forces alone will cause incalculable weather changes. One volcano eruption blasts more toxins into our atmosphere than anything humans could create or destroy in all of their history. A dweeb in a Volvo with a bad muffler is no match for the sun lol  .

Oh no, not this old argument again. It's been thoroughly debunked.
This is what USGS has to say about it:

Do the Earth’s volcanoes emit more CO2 than human activities? Research findings indicate that the answer to this frequently asked question is a clear and unequivocal, “No.” Human activities, responsible for a projected 35 billion metric tons (gigatons) of CO2 emissions in 2010 (Friedlingstein et al., 2010), release an amount of CO2 that dwarfs the annual CO2 emissions of all the world’s degassing subaerial and submarine volcanoes (Gerlach, 2011).

The published estimates of the global CO2 emission rate for all degassing subaerial (on land) and submarine volcanoes lie in a range from 0.13 gigaton to 0.44 gigaton per year (Gerlach, 1991; Varekamp et al., 1992; Allard, 1992; Sano and Williams, 1996; Marty and Tolstikhin, 1998). The preferred global estimates of the authors of these studies range from about 0.15 to 0.26 gigaton per year. The 35-gigaton projected anthropogenic CO2 emission for 2010 is about 80 to 270 times larger than the respective maximum and minimum annual global volcanic CO2 emission estimates. It is 135 times larger than the highest preferred global volcanic CO2 estimate of 0.26 gigaton per year (Marty and Tolstikhin, 1998).

And remember, USGS aren't in the business to gain research money on climate change caused by humans. It would have been in their interest if it were caused by geological phenomena. Yet, they are scientists, and accept the truth.
