OK, what's the consensus on plastic bottles? I've noticed a few brands (usually cheaper stuff) that comes in that format. I wonder if that effects the flavor or not.

Sometimes it can be problematic when you combine the two. :P

That might depend on whether you get your mix from a glass or plastic bottle. :P

Yeah, I've bought a 2.75 liter of Canadian Mist a few times, since it was only around $20 where I live and it comes in a plastic bottle. It pretty much goes down like gasoline if you drink it straight, but it's manageable mixed with a Coke or something. :P It will get the job done, though. Plus, it's not the worst there is out there. To me, that would be Beer 30. I highly recommend avoiding that like the plague, if they even still make that stuff. I've done some crazy stuff in my time, but drinking a mere 6 pack of that actually physically hurt me. It was like I swallowed the can, itself and it had jagged edges. That was an experience and I don't know what the hell possessed me to try it in the first place. Masochistic curiosity? :P

I seem to recall that rum can be in bottled in plastic, or bottled in glass at another country, because glass is scarce (for beverage coming from a small island), or it is economical to simply transport barrels for bulk shipment ease (which could explain other liquor following suit).

Whisky can be found in plastic . . . but how about scotch? And beer? I haven't noticed.

Incidentally, Commonwealth navies passed out Pusser's Rum to their crews for centuries until some spoil sport ceased that tradition and made it commercial. The original 110 Proof (over 50% alcohol) was unmatched for its history. While the commercial version is only a shadow of the original, with an acquired taste for this dark rum, you may find it to be a treat, not only for drinking, but also for cooking.

The whisky connection :?: Pusser's rum has been called the single malt of rums.

Thankfully, I never spilled any on my ship

Yeah, I remember seeing something about that on TV somewhere where they mentioned that they use to ration out rum. It was on some history show or something. It could have been on that show "Booze Traveler" that it might have been mentioned as well. That's something I've been watching lately. I'd say that's a hell of a gig, he goes travelling around the planet and gets blasted with the local populations. Well, there is history behind it and all of that, but that's essentially what he does. :P

I've never had Pusser's Rum. I wonder if they carry here in Newport, RI? They should, since this is a sea resort town. :P

Any you still have to try among those posted Nonnig? I was over in Balmore a while back and the price list in the bar had a bottle of Balmore black bottle, I'm sure it was something like £2,000 a dram. Whats the most expensive you've tasted, and was it worth it?
ps I never tasted the balmore

John, of those posted by Jon aka Nonnig, White Horse and Glenlivet are the ones I have tried. Balmore is another that I haven't had the pleasure of tasting. The most expensive beverage that I've enjoyed is this one: Image
decidedly not a whiskey but a cognac. I have consumed 3 or 4 bottles in my entire life and recommend it for any high salaried running back or quarterback or CEO or, well, you get the picture, enjoy this when ever opportunity smiles. :D

That's an interesting looking bottle. But as you say it's expensive, I seriously would doubt they put in a basic plastic one. :P

Another vote for Lagavulin. Very peety. I hope to visit Islay someday.

Scottish, Irish, American, Canadian? Which whiskey is the best in the world? Well, for 2015 it's none of these, apparently. According to a recent ranking by Jim Murray and the 2015 Whisky Bible, Yamazaki Single Malt Sherry Cask 2013 won out. 97.5 out of a hundred.

Choosing the best is hard enough, but there appears to be no consensus on the oldest, and even price does not give verification alone.

I think the best whiskey is the one you have in your hand :D

I've got a plastic bottle of R & R around the house. Store has choice of plastic or glass and I can't tell the difference. But like you said - cheaper stuff.
