Hopefully after a series of failures by the USPS tomorrow will be a New Strat Day (NSD?).

The question I have is how long should I leave the guitar inside before opening it? The temperature tomorrow is forecast to be -20C (-4F) .

Are there serious conditions that may arise that a good setup won't solve?

It's a burst Classic Player 60's Strat btw.

I would say leave it at room temperature for 2 or 3 hours before you play and start adjusting settings. Let it stabilize a bit. If it comes in a case then take the shipping wrapping off the case and then leave guitar in the case for that time.

I would allow the guitar to acclimate to its new ambient temperature for at least a day, sequestered in its closed case or shipping carton. The risk is not to the set-up per se, more likely that issues may develop with the finish.

+1K !!

Ignore any temptation to open the box or case sooner. Keep the box in a place where the temp is stable, not the hottest or coldest part of the room for at least 24 hrs.

It would also be good to take pics as you unpack the guitar. Given the season and it's low temps, it's possible the guitar may be damaged (how long did it sit on a dock or in the back of a truck?). A camera with fresh out-of-the-box pics of any damage will go a long way to a quick Warranty claim.

Here are some pics of my '57 AV after it spent 25 hrs. in the back of a FedEx truck in near and sub-zero temps... not pretty. It may seem extreme, but it does happen. Hopefully not to you.

Thanks for the tips.

That is a shame about the 57 AV but that's what insurance is for.

Also, I am very aware of the no pics, never happened laws around here. ;)

I have a box warming nicely!

Like Tom Petty said ...The wait is the hardest part.

Considering USPS took 25 days to deliver an item that was to take 6-10, including 2 weeks to return it to the sender in error, the extra few hours is not so bad.

I had one of my guitars stored in an unheated shed for almost a month in -20C temps. First night in the house, I left it in the porch away from any direct heat. The next morning I brought it in the house but left it in the unopened case. Later that night I opened the case and let it come to room temps before playing it.

It was in tune and played as good as ever.

I didn't translate this, but I'm guessing it means "do not confuse me for a forum moderator, although I may act like one".

No, for you it means STFU.

It is annoying to me when people start multiple threads about the same guitar/amp/gear, and I'll express my opinion about it if I want to. One thread mentions the model, the other thread has pics, and it's more than redundant to have two threads about the same thing with info split between them. It's a little bit more annoying than you are.
