I just might consider to keep doing this- bringing back old, unpopular threads.

It's been over a year, and yes, i am only 13 turning 14 in June! I play a squire bullet and a couple of acoustic guitars currently in my possession.

And it is getting chilly for all those down south (Brad) up here in New York, and some areas are seeing snow already. Winter is gonna go by fast, even if it is the longest season. :D

Well... sorry dude, I'm about six years older than you. And hey, be glad you have parents who let you play at your age.

"Hey mom, can I play guitar?" -age 6

"Hey mom, can I play guitar?" -age 9

"Hey mom..."
"No, but you will be starting piano soon." -age 10

Don't get me wrong, I like piano, and it gives you a great musical background, it's just... argh, why couldn't she start me at piano at 6 THEN when I was a bit older get me a guitar. Heck, she got me a guitar, but that little First Act sat in the closet untuned. Now it's in the basement.

Anyway...

I have a 12 yr old nephew that has been playing guitar for two years now. He just started to learn how to record on his computer. He plays chord patterns and overdubs leads. Technology is great, eh?

When I was 12....I..ah....what was the question?

I'm 17, so do you consider that young? I started around 12-13 though.

I'm a 52 year old father/grandfather and find it very cool to see someone 10 years old playing guitar!!!! I was 10 when I got interested in music and started playing.

Had to wait until 3 years ago.

Wow... y'all can't be serious! My parents didn't care what i played, and they always liked me having an interest in music. First keyboard (piano- still play piano a very little bit), then clarinet (it was purchased for approximately $700 or so my dad says, and i plan on selling it to get [insert awesome fender guitar here]), then acoustic. I stopped playing, got back on it after a little bit, and then i got bored and wanted something more fun. Voila, here i am with the electric. I think i am going to stick with this, because i was too lazy to learn anything else, and now i know a fair amount of guitar playing (as if!).

Although my parents complained that i never stayed on one instrument, i have found mine, and for a setup of under 300 bucks.

p.s. i never say y'all...

I started when I was 12 and now I'm 49. My mother used to sing in Country/Western bands when I was a kid and she had a Gibson Hummingbird Acoustic that she used to play. Well I used to sneak in her bedroom and fool around with it and I started looking through the Mel Bay Chord books which she had at the time. One day she came in the room and caught me fooling around with the guitar and instead of grounding me,ending up giving it to me instead. To this day I could kick myself in the $@! for getting rid of that guitar. It would be worth a fortune on today's vintage market.
It would be worth even more as something your mother gave you. 8) Mike
