On Sunday at band practice , my 1996 Fender Roc-Pro which I only got a few months ago, decided to die out on me. Thank god I still have my 1988 Fender Studio 85 which is SS and still works great. My Bassist who is also a amp tech , is going to see what he can do to fix it. He thinks that one or maybe, 2 of the capacitors probably died out . If he gets it fixed , I'm bringing it to Guitar Center and I'm going to do a cash / trade deal for a new Fender Mustang III combo. Plus. all of us here in New England are going through the mother of all snow blizzards right now. It started yesterday afternoon and is expected to go into early tomorrow morning , thus leaving us here in Rhode Island with a projected amount of around close to 2 feet of snow or maybe more. Isn't life fun ?

What snowstorm? Here a bit west of you, there's been some wind gusts, and it has snowed. But not more than I'm used to. Rather less, actually. It's not even knee height, except in windfalls.

I've noticed that it never snows anymore. It's always called a snow storm. Even when there's nothing storm about it at all. And blizzard? I almost hope that people get hit by a real blizzard, so they get to know the difference. People have become real sissies. I remember houses being chained down, and ropes tied between buildings. That's a storm.
And standing at a 45 degree angle buoyed by the wind, and being unable to see my own outstretched hand. That's a blizzard.

The snow we got is so light and fluffy that it blew itself straight off the car. So I wanted to go for a nice drive, but there's a $300 fine for driving now, despite excellent snow driving conditions.

Arth , we're I'm at in Woonsocket , we have about 16 inches or so , of snow right now and it is still coming down with no end predicted until sometime tomorrow morning. What's really bad about this storm is not so much the snow, but the high force winds which are dropping the temps down to single degree digits. By tomorrow morning, we'll probably have at least a couple of feet of snow or more. This is the 1st major snowfall of this winter in this area but, nothing will ever top the blizzard of 1978 that hit this area with snowdrifts that were 6 ft high in several spots.

I grew up on the east coast and I don't ever remember them closing schools based on a prediction of a storm coming. We used to have to listen to the local radio station to announce the school closings in the morning as we got ready. If we didn't hear our school named, then put on your boots and head out.

Good grief, hope you get your amp fixed okay. Aggravating to say the least.

Yeah, it seems people are getting less hardy, and it doesn't take much these days before they close schools and public offices. And in this case even all roads.
I wish I were young again, and could go out and enjoy the weather properly! Snow angels, snowball wars with castles, kites, skiing... A little more snow, and it might be enough to dig out some snow caves to sleep in, like I remember we did as a kid.
I hope the kids today enjoy it and get their cheeks ruddy, and don't just sit in front of the X-Box.

Enjoy the snow, fellow Northasterners! May we get more nice days like this before the winter is over!

As a Jeep driver I'd be pretty damn pissed if they ever declared some "driving ban" nonsense where I lived. They "close highways" here upstate, but that just means they aren't going to help you if you get stranded and they won't be taking care of them. Which is just fine by me. Makes for more fun driving that way.

We have a driving ban here in RI which is in effect until 8 PM tonight. I just read online that New York and New Jersey didn't get hit as hard as expected , which is good for them. It's 5:38 over here and the snow along with the wind, is still coming on strong with temps predicted to get as low as around 1 below for tonight over here. After that , we're still going to have a pretty chilly week with temps in the single digits. I've shoveled 3 times already today and I'm done until tomorrow morning. My old $@! is staying in now for the rest of the night where it's nice and warm.

I just found out today from my Bassist who does amp repair, that it's definitely the transformer which died out. To hell with getting a replacement because I can't find any online anywhere. I'm going to take the Reverb tank and speaker and see what I can get for them on Craig's List . I'll probably end up going to GC this weekend and buy myself a new , Mustang III Combo which I've been thinking about getting for some time now. I'll throw in my Studio 85 as part trade towards it.

+1 I even had a really nice hybrid head for years. While the hybrid was great for convenience and dependability I spent all those years missing the sound of a full tube rig. Moving back was the best thing I ever did. It does require more care and maintenance, but it's totally worth it.

Seems to me you have a reliable amp...the Studio 85! You keep having to pull it out when the recent POC amp you're in love with dies...Just saying.

Not to worry, Tony.

The new POS will last a good long time......perhaps even a year.

Very sound advice. Jeffo46, choose your path wisely but know that this journey will most likely lead to regret. :D On the other hand, I've heard nothing but great things about the mustang, so who knows.
