I don't see a problem with anything soft, if it floats your boat. Anything hard, which is going to vibrate, would be as annoying as an annoying thing though.

I have a "Mojo bag" or "Medicine bag" that hangs from the (bridge) end of my guitar strap. In it are some oddball things that inspire me (a lock of Lady Armadillo's hair, one of Armadillo Teen's baby teeth, a few picks given to me by various players I admire, a rattlesnake rattle, a string from Joe Ely's guitar, a $2 bill autographed by Buddy Guy and Kim Wilson, etc.).

The leather strings that tie the bag closed are adorned with some little metal charms and beads (armadillo, longhorn, human skull, cowboy hat, etc.).

This might be a better location than the headstock or string trees for such decoration.
