My friend Don got a White Blonde MIM Esquire a little over a year ago. He really dug it, but was always more of a humbucker guy, so about six months later, he had our bass player Corey put in a new bridge made for a humbucker. I thought it looked pretty sweet!

So with the 'Bucker in there, Don dug it even more, but Corey is handy with more than just installing bridges, he's also a good painter and woodworker. So Don asked Corey to make it even more unique by painting it "Butter Yellow" and adding a belly cut and arm contour.
Corey took it apart and sanded the body down in all the right places, right through the polyurethane and down to the paint. Then he put on two coats of sealer, followed by 10 coasts of nitro (starting with a couple of white, then added some yellow, and a bunch of clear).
He did have some trouble with the three different pieces of wood that made up the body as they soaked up the lacquer differently and the grain came through too much after the first couple coats in one section, so he had to go back and put in some grain filler.
But the end result is beautiful and definitely one-of-a-kind. And you can definitely hear the difference between the poly and the nitro. It just breathes better and sounds much more alive.
Needless to say, Don is stoked.

You can see the arm contour if you look close. Next step will probably be to add a parchment pickguard...

Corey also put himself together a partscaster that he painted Fiesta Red.

Nice.... curious, does the "Esquire" have a coil tap via the toggle switch?
Any future plans to go HH with that guitar... that would add a lot of tone options.

You know, the new and improved smaller font of the subjects is not really helping.
When I first read this, I did not read "butterbucker"...

Yeah, he's got a Lollar Imperial in there with coil tapping and since he likes to be able to toggle the sound on and off, Position 1 is Humbucker, Position 2 is Off and Position 3 is Single Coil.

As for making it HH, not in the cards for this particular axe: One God, one country, one pickup.

I agree that a single humbucker Esquire is something to desire (although I count 196 countries and have no need for fairytales).

Then how about: One world, one love, one pickup?
