There is Zero proof that this is even a Jennings case let alone that it is even original to the guitar!

While it is similar, the handle and second thin compartment is not like any Jennings guitar case I have seen during my time in Europe! Way too many suppositions, I however am going on experience I have accumulated.

I think this case is just a generic one (Much like SKB does today) that was purchased sometime during the life of the guitar, maybe even at the time the guitar was purchased. As I stated every Jennings case I have seen had a Jennings label on it.

The logo looks far newer than the case as well considering both of their condition.

Selmer was the UK Fender distributor at this time. Export Fender USA instruments were exported without cases to Selmer UK for at least 3 reasons and all 3 reasons had to do with money. Other international distributors may have done the same thing for the same reasons. #1 Selmer had their own case supplier in the UK which cost them less because they purchased cases not just for guitars, but also for all the instruments they imported to the UK including Selmer horns from Selmer's own plants in the US and elsewhere such as France. They likely were Jennings number one customer. #2 Import duties are on the value and without a case it has less value which also held down costs. #3 Fender charged less for an instrument with no case.

I'm no expert on cases used in the UK by Selmer over the years, but that is a decent enough case. Looks a lot like I would expect a UK case to look. I find the Fender logo on the case sort of odd to my American eyes though. I am not saying it isn't correct or original to the case, just saying as a guy in the USA who doesn't go to Europe every year that it just looks wrong because it isn't a case that I'm used to seeing that logo affixed upon.

(One of Selmer's horn plants at one time was right here in Albemarle, NC where they made horns for a number of years, which has nothing to do with the topic but is a little known fact and I kind of liked knowing Selmer was here at the time, but they closed down here years ago.)

Absent the 'tone' of this discussion at times, we're certainly accumulating some interesting anecedotes. As I alluded to earlier, that's why we're here.

Original or not, that's a cool-looking case and I would proudly carry any of my axes in it!

Reminds me of the old Samsonite luggage from the 60's--even has a similar (brown) hued covering...

Agreed - whether it's an "official" Fender case or not, it certainly looks to be a quality case, with details like four hinges, and sturdy feet on the bottom to better protect the hinges, plenty of room for a strap, and a locking strap for the guitar neck itself. Whoever made it, it seems like a good case.

And yes, we learn new things here, which is one of the reasons why I come back!

Arth1...something we do agree on for this post, it does look to be a quality case and very well built...it's bona fides not withstanding.
