I got my hands on A Fender Coronado II to try the other day, and was surprised at how much I liked it. I'm not really a fan of huge bodied guitars, but this one just struck a chord, you know?

Those Fidelitron pickups really sing!! I found it pleasantly warm, and positively dripping with good tones. Plus the difference between the three pick up sounds is so large, it really is like having three guitars at once! Very easy to play, too. I think I'll have to add one to my GAS list...

Originally, I had been looking for a Jazzmaster- to spend my Christmas loot on! After visiting just about every guitar place around, I can up totally empty... The closest I got was a Blacktop Jazzmaster- with a humbucker in the bridge. They also had a "strat" shaped Fender with Jazzmaster pickups and bridge, but that also was not what I was after... I may just have to break down and order one. ( I've NEVER seen one in my local GC, except for 1 used one, that sold before I could buy it...)

I believe it was only this that stopped me from buying the Coronado- or the amp I tried it out on! I want that JM BAD!

I also managed to find a Peavey Delta Blues amp for sale- CHEAP! Plugged that Coronado in, and let er rip. Just like the Classic 30 I like so much, I suspect this amp makes any guitar sound good. That 15" speaker shifts some serious air! Long story short, I liked it every bit as much as I suspected I would! My only beef: Tremolo is really slow up until about 2 or 3 o'clock, when it finally speeds up. Sounds awesome though. I later discovered the reason why it was SOO punchy sounding was because the boost was turned on the whole time. Turning it off made quite a bit of difference. Still sounded fantastic, it just was no longer threatening to blow me off the stool. ( and the volume never went above 3!) Suffice to say, you will definitely be heard thru this one- and sound great! I MUST get one of these.

Also got to try the Fender Vaporizer. Another fun amp! I really liked the vintage sounding tone. Kicking the Vaporizer switch on- I liked it even more! Not the sort of tone one thinks of when Fender is brought up. This thing just ROARS like a banshee! You can also turn the volume off and crank the reverb and play like that- actually sounds pretty good.

* fair warning: if you value your hearing, don't stand right in front of it, guitar in hand when you turn the vaporizer function on. SCREEEECH!!!!! There's a ton of gain here. Not to mention, there is no volume control when Vaporizer is turned on- it's running flat out.

I considered myself lucky to leave that store with my wallet still intact. They only wanted $450 for that Delta Blues (it was used)- I still can't believe I didn't buy it. Just too loud for my living space... "only" 30 watts my arse...
