I have one of those 12 tube amps. 13 actually. But I love this amp. I get enjoyment out of being able to tailor all 3 sections separately to exactly how I want them to sound.

It is expensive though. I have about $600 in tubes running this amp.

It's hard to imagine you need a 12ay7 to curb the noise in your peavey. I had an ultra 120 years ago, and a simple 7025 was enough to keep it realatively quiet. I won't go anything under a 12at7 in any V-slot.

I have a 6201 (12at7) in the clean channel of the H&K. You might give that a try. You can get a GE 12at7wa 6201 fairly cheap on eBay. That's about as quiet as it gets and you still get a nice flavorful tube sound out of them.
