Jimi Hendrix - Red House

I just love that D7th chord shape sound sliding down from the 11th fret to the 10th fret in the intro! Eeerie and mysterious!
:-)

Ah, the "Hendrix chord" in D, D7#9.
My favorite way of playing that is 10-10-9-10-10-10, which transforms nicely into a pure D at 10-0-0-10+1/2-10-10.
It takes a little practice to get the middle finger pull bend right, but once it's in your fingers, it's an easy transition that sounds nice.

+ 1K...Damn fine choices. I always loved playing Secret Agent Man just because of that intro! What a blast to play, including the solo!

Rocky Mountain Way - Joe Walsh

When ever or were ever I hear it, I can't sit still.

Another very simple intro, but the audience always knows the song after the first 4 or 5 notes...Folsum Prison Blues.

Here's a few from me:

La Villa Strangiato was already mentioned so i'll add

1. The Camera Eye - Rush - One of my favorite Rush tunes. Starts off with lush synthesizers and then that thick energetic guitar line kicks in and everything just takes off.

2. Where Eagles Dare - Iron Maiden - That opening drum lick just sets it all up for that album. Hey everyone, meet Nicko!

3. Time - Pink Floyd - The intro sets the perfect mood for a song called time... Opens with clocks and then the intro music is like clockwork.

Gotta go with:
Led Zepplin's Since I've Been Loving You
Iron Maiden's Phantom of the Opera
Deep Purple's Child In Time (that opening keyboard just sets the tone for the entire song)

Agreed on Phantom of the Opera. I almost tacked it on there too. That intro rocks. They did that on the 2009 leg of the Somewhere Back in Time Tour and it was awesome.

I'm going to add 'Sheep' by Pink Floyd as well. I love the Rhodes on that intro.
