Consider ourselves lucky that Fender nurtures our love of Guitars, Amps & Music by running/supporting these Forums.

I am also a member of the Heritage Owners Guitar Forums, a forum not dissimilar to this one. I joined when searching for my Heritage H-535 to learn all about Heritage Guitars and where the best sources for buying one were.

While I don't frequent it as often as this one, it was a great forum to learn about the nuances of Heritage Guitars. In addition, they offered two classified sections to members, one for Heritage Guitars and gear and another for Other Gear (where a lot of Fender Gear was sold). These offered another place to look for used gear and also as a barometer to current pricing.

Today I visited the site to see a single post from the Administrator which read:

" Community Going Dark...

We had a good run, but it looks like it's over.

I've disabled all of the forums, but left the board active for a short period as I was reminded that several members have deals going on in the background and their only means of contact currently is via PM here. You should all still be able to use the PM function. I encourage you to make arrangements for contact outside of the board as it will be shut down permanently in the near future.

So long and thanks for all the fish
"

Devastating News !

So let's all consider ourselves Lucky and appreciate these Forums in a 'don't know what you got 'til it's gone' sorta way...

cheers!

No doubt. Let's definitely count our blessings and thank Fender for keeping the forum going strong.

I guess regular Fender owners might outnumber Heritage guitar owners by several orders of magnitude. So Fender owners, there is safety in numbers. :D

Very sorry to hear about the Heritage collapse. Maybe some of the nicer people from there will land here. They would be welcome I'm sure. Tell them for me that they are welcome for all the fish, but oh wait, you can't!

I doubt less than a single digit percentile of their membership of about 5K actually comprehended the context of the literary reference in their snippy farewell, but I did and that reference translated means in essence that they are LONG GONE and you are on your own...and that you are going to die almost immediately while they have spirited themselves safely far away from the doom that is upon Earth. A doom which should happen at any moment now.

"So long, and thanks for all the fish," was a very snide way to say farewell indeed. I must remember that for my next written resignation letter. It is also a way of saying, "We are superior, and while you are doomed to die we are not and we got out while the getting was good...suckers." They might have thought that closing comment was cool, but I found it as cold, heartless and snide as it was in the book. I would find it not so devastating to have such selfish fish gobblers gone. And I will patiently sit here and await the forthcoming destruction of Earth as foretold by Heritage management. Okay, still waiting. Checking NORAD, nothing yet. Not even Santa's sleigh yet. Wait! North Korean ICBM's! Just kidding. Nothing there.

Heritage was a quality driven yet very minor blip in the musical instrument biz. No tragic loss in the grand scheme of life on Earth as a serious or even non-serious musician.

"No. There is another..." (Another famous quote that comes to mind, not literary but appropriate. Actually there are many "anothers" in the game.)

I think is fantastic that this forum is here.
Personally, I would like to give Brad a huge THANK YOU.

He's doing a great job making this site a better place... and... he's helping to build a community where we all feel welcome.
Can't say that for most other forums out there.

I would also like to add that all of YOU folks on this forum... are a step above the rest. There's respect on this forum for others... that's an enriching thing to be associated with... mindful, respectful people.

So... I'm also going to extend a big THANK YOU to all of you guys (and Gals...) who help make this community a cool place to be. And THANKS to "Lightin MN" as well for starting this thread.
Yes... we are lucky to have such a cool place such as this community.

I guess I don't fully comprehend. Is Heritage the company going out of business, or just closing their user forum?

I tend to think in a reverse fashion with regards to appreciating this forum. At least regarding FMIC. I like to think of the forum as a thank you from them. It is our millions of dollars of purchases that allows top execs at FMIC to draw good salaries.

Our Fender talk certainly create GAS that is good for their bottom line. They get to market to us. We largely self-manage. More answers put to Fender TSL are answered by forum members than by Fender who will sometimes take weeks to reply. Often after answers have been forum provided in a TIMELY fashion.

I am thankful for all the great people here at the forum.

For those not in the know - aka The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Heritage is still very much making guitars, but the small, yet strong, community has been denied a central meeting place.

Btw, here's my '10 Heritage H-535 (Gibson Es-335 equivalent):

Denied? Has Heritage said they'll come after anyone who opens a forum?

i see it as a sane decision - if you don't have resources to do something well, it's better not to do it mediocre. When users run a forum, no one expects it to reflect on the company, but when the company does it, it better be representative. That takes resources, not only to keep it running, but to police it, help create a positive environment, fight spam, fight fights, and generally be nice guys. If those resources aren't there, it's better to scuttle.
