Are you wealthy? Yes? Good, I'm happy for you. Really.

Do you own a lot expensive musical equipment? Yes?

WOOPEE!

Are you any more talented than a poor man or woman?

How much money makes you wealthy? How much makes you poor? What, if I am wealthy and have great equipment am I not a good guitar player? If I am poor and have crappy equipment, does that mean I can't become a great player? Or vice versa? What a wasted post!

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I don't think we need to know anybody's financial status on here to be honest. So what if somebody has more guitars than the other person ? Is that really important ? What matters is , are you happy with what you own . That should be the question here.

Not only does money not equal talent. Talent also does not equal money. Welcome to the music industry.

Another way to lable people and divide them. How about if you are middle class and have good equipment. Or have alot of money and still buy cheap equipment. Who really gives a rats $@! one way or another.

Really just wanted to sign in and post in the new forums. If you have talent and can afford to do the things necessary to get good, then yes, you probably need some money. Top notch lessons, decent gear, not stressing over putting food on the table, can all help but it can't replace talent. You can be dirt poor and still become the best! I have had times when I had lots of money (for me) and times when I was poor, did not really notice a difference in my talent level. Although as you age, you really need to have some for good diet and healthcare, as well as, not suffering from financial anxiety. People die or work themselves to death (literally) trying to deal with poverty or living beyond their means. So, if you are stressed/depressed and sick and overworked then I can see that having a negative affect on anything you try to become good at. But all and all, you can't buy talent. Thank goodness. I think talent remains a path for many to rise above poverty and provide for their family and others. Professional sports is a obvious example of this. They don't all make good choices as we see in the news all the time, but many of them do, that we don't hear about. I'm rambling now...

There is another component, heart. I went to school with a set of twins that played basketball. Both were starters, but one was way more talented than the other. The less talented one had a lot more love for the game. Fast forward 25 years and the talented one is working manual labor jobs and barley getting by, the other played ball through Collage and is now a collage coach and making a nice living. A lot of people have talent and expect to get what they want without putting in the work, while a less talented person who is willing to work hard will succeed.

Welcome to the real world. 8)
(Not trying to be a smart $@!)
