In 1966 my folks bought me a 1963 Supro Martinique and a Danelectro DM10. I still have and play the Supro, wish I still had the Dano. It was replaced with a 66 Vibrolux Reverb.

My first electric guitar was a Telecaster that I bought in like new condition for $75 in 1968. A sweet deal, even in 1968 dollars. I did not have an amp until about a year later. A Princeton Reverb. Still have the guitar but sold the amp in the early 1990's when I got a case of Mesa/Boogie lust. I eventually replaced that loss with a PRRI, which I like better than my silverface original. And the Boogie is still a great little amp, so I'm very happy with the way it all turned out.

A Gibson SG JR, and a Silvertone amp. In 1968. Both were used, but in good condition.

A 2011 FSR American Vintage '57 Stratocaster Ltd. Ed.

SN# LE02639

and an Orange Crush 20L

Image

which within a month was relegated to see duty w/ my Zoom Z3 pedal (I use the Drum function instead of a metronome) and I acquired a '96 Fender Princeton Chorus

Image

This has been sold off after acquiring my '67 Deluxe Blackface, '73 Silverface Princeton Reverb and my 2013 Peavey Delta Blues 115.

It's a little embarrassing to have started on such an excellent guitar, but talk about motivating ! I practice everyday hoping that someday my playing will be worthy of such a fine instrument !

cheers!

1981 Fender Bullet cream with maple neck/fret board. Looked a bit like a strat but with two single coil pups. Bought in 1983 with hard case for £125. Traded it in 2012 (to fund purchase of Tayor 214ce) for £250. Shop sold it the next day for £399!!!! The one in the picture sold for £590!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
first Amp was a Peavey Decade 10w practice amp bought second hand at the same time as the Bullet. Built like a tank and I still use it now.
Others I traded in for the Taylor were a Washburn solid bodied acoustic, a Vantage 12-string acoustic, and an Epiphone Mandolin.
An Ovation Applause finally went to help fund the Fender Tele FMT.

Begged for an electric guitar for Christmas one year and go this LOL.

Was this a sick sarcastic joke by Santa?

The speaker didn’t even work longer than an hour and there was no way I was leaving the house with this. But that’s one way to teach your kids the work ethic. I went and got a job and bought myself a Series 10 and a Gorilla amp to learn on. Got a Squier the following summer.

A '73 Princeton Reverb (it was '75) and a knock off SG with Royce on the headstock bought at Sam Goody's.

The Royce SG was soon followed by a '73 Tele bought second hand for $250.

I no longer have any of this stuff.

I got a Guild Starfire III in 1967 for high school graduation. Soon thereafter I picked up a Vox Cambridge Reverb amp. Like a fool, I sold both of them about 30 years ago. I still regret selling them.

The first guitar I had was an Ibanez Blazer (strat copy). Frankly, it was really decent! had 3 single coils w/ black covers.... black pickgaurd and a natural finish. The body was a good piece of Ash (had an awesome grain to it) and the neck had a Maple board.
It played well.
First amp was a Kustom SS combo 1x12 (100 watt)... It was pretty loud.. wasn't a bad amp at all. Rocked out with my first high school band using that rig! I actually miss both the amp and the guitar these days... They we're awesome for a first guitar rig :)

Plywood bodied Hohner S-type and a Yamaha solid state practice amp. Both quite used. $150 for everything, I think.

'59 Gibson Melody Maker got in '65: $65 with fake alligator case. Two pickup, single cut away. I think usually ones I see are single pickups. Amp (if you can call it that) was dad's Wollensak reel to reel recorder (had monitor could plug into.. oye!). Pop's then got me a Rheem transistor amp (cutting edge to have transistors I guess). Talked him into taking back and got a Magnatone Estey M1. Still have that sitting at bro in laws (I hope...). Couldn't really take it to Thailand. I should probably find someone who wants to give it a loving home.

I was spoiled--my first guitar was an EXCELLENT 1980 G&L F-100...I bought it for around $289 or so (in 1989)...
The amp was good (not great), too--a 197? solid state Gibson G20. I would live to have that thing's tremolo/vibrato/whatever as a pedal--very cool sounding. I paid $25 and 3 beers for it.

I still own them both.
