He will be missed by many.

The last time I saw the Stones he got just as many cheers as the "main" Stones did when Mick did introductions.

If I remember Keith Richards' book correctly ... Bobby was Keith Richards' best friend, and was born the exact same day as Keith.

That's very sad,it was only a couple of weeks ago that we lost another great saxophonist, Raphael Ravenscroft ( Gerry Rafferty's ''Baker Street'' and hits by Tom Cochrane's Red Ryder etc.).Bobby Keys has done studio work over the years that has made him part of many hit songs by stars such as Paul McCartney,Donovan and many others. There's hardly a week that goes by lately that we don't loose a musical giant, there have been a lot of great losses in the music industry this year especially, you almost wonder each week which revered musician we'll loose next.

Same here... I saw the Stones in Charlottesville, VA during their Bigger Bang tour in Oct 2005. When Mick introduced Bobby Keys on sax, the whole place gave a roar like he was one of the main members of the Stones. ...well, then again, if you think about it - he should have been. 8)

R.I.P. Bobby Keys... You played a hell of a sax!

In Lubbock, Keys befriended Buddy Holly, playing with him briefly as a teenager. "I kind of weaseled my way into the perimeter of the garage," recalled Keys. "He was the first guy I heard play electric guitar and it impressed the hell out of me."

By the early Sixties, a teenage Keys was backing pop star Bobby Vee, hitting the road on Dick Clark’s Caravan of Stars tour. "Rolling down the highway with Little Anthony and Little Eva and Major Lance and Billy Stewart and Freddy Canon. It was really cool. I was still a teenager. We played armories and gymnasiums and things like that. It was great training."

He first crossed paths with the Rolling Stones in 1964 at the San Antonio Teen Fair.

Yep, two heavyweights in less than a week!

Ever since Jack Bruce passed, it's been a weekly thing it seems.

I was lucky to have seen the Stones in 1981 when they played the Kingdome is Seattle. At that time, I was stationed across the bay, in Bremerton, Washington . IMO, Bobby Keys was a member of the Stones since they recorded Stick Fingers way back in 1970 or so.
