Hi,

I'm wondering about what would be the best tremolo unit to put on my guitar.
I have a 1987 Fender American Standard Stratocaster and I was thinking about putting an 80's Kahler fulcrum traditional 2520 unit on it as I liked the look of it being subtle and non-bulky and there would be no additional routing needed for this I believe.

I've since done some research on this model and have heard that it can break easily and also go out of tune easily and with it being a discontinued model, parts could be tricky to get if required.

So I wondered about a Wilkinson or even the Schaller Floyd Rose version (http://www.warmoth.com/Schaller-Floyd-R ... 8C694.aspx)

These both look quite small subtle units. Has anyone ever used the Shaller or Wilkinson's before on a Strat?

Another question I have is: Does anyone know if Locking tuners erase the need for a locking nut with a trem unit? One of my other strats has locking tuning pegs with the standard Fender trem unit and no locking nut, but with the locking tuners it never ever goes out of tune.

I'm happy to hear your suggestions. Thanks. :)

Locking tuners do not replace a locking nut. Their primary function is to minimize changes in tension of the string wraps on the tuning post after trem use but they have no guaranteed affect on possible changes in tension over the nut after trem use. That being said, when they are used in conjunction with a roller nut instead of a locking nut they are almost as effective as a locking nut while still providing the ability to tune conventionally.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I didn't mention earlier that my strat with the locking tuners also has the roller nut.
