I posted this in the amp section this morning but nobody seems to be visiting over there so I thought if I posted here, I could get some responses. As most of you know, I acquired a mid 90's , Fender Roc-Pro 700 last Saturday which has a 12AX7/ECC83 tube pre amp which is used for the gain. When I first got the amp, the volume pot for the gain channel was scratchy at first but now, it seems that it takes a minute or two before the gain volume kicks in. Is this something I should be alarmed about ? I've been a solid state guy in the past, so tubes are something new to me and I could use some help here concerning this, thanks.

I'm not familiar with this specific amp, but tubes usually take a minute or two to warm up and be fully functional. If once it does, if you are not experiencing fluctuating up/down volumes, I'd expect it's due to the normal way tubes work.

With tubes, you'll want to give them a standby mode for about a minute, just to let the tubes heat up.

Once it kicks in, it seems to be fine . It just didn't do this when I first got the amp last week and I was just concerned, that's all. The clean channel which is solid state, kicks right in but the gain which has the tube pre-amp, seems to take some time to warm up which is why I was concerned.

Problem solved folks. I went and bought some deoxit and took out the chassis , to which I proceeded to clean the pots with it. After I reinstalled it, the amp started up faster and also sounded better as well. The tube preamp still takes a minute to warm up but I'm thinking as some of you posted, that's because it is a tube and needs time to warm up. Thanks.

Cool - if you didn't get this, it might be worth saving:

Thanks Mike, I was able to download both, the manual and schematics after I took care of the issue with the amp. They're now on my computer for safekeeping.
