As most of you know , I recently acquired a 2002 Squier Affinity Strat a few weeks ago which has pickups from a 2005 MIM Standard Strat . I love the guitar and think it sounds great but, here is the problem , at first when I set it up, it would stay in tune. Now , it is going out of tune constantly, and I was wondering would a change of the stock bridge saddles along with maybe adding a couple of trem springs to the back, help relieve this ? I was considering upgrading the saddles to some Graph-Tech Imports. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Do you use the Tremolo at all? Or did you take it off and throw it as far into a corn field or lake as you can like I do with all lower end guitars?

Blocking or strengthening your bridge plate with more springs MIGHT help, of course, the tuners have to be willing to cooperate as well.

The first question you have to ask yourself it what might have changed since the last time it worked properly.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

A lot of tuning problems are related to how the strings are wound on the tuning post.
Often the nut is the cause - bad material, bad nut slots, no lubing.
Those would be the first things I'd check (and do a setup while the guitar is on the table).

And: some Affinities just have a "lively" neck, that is prone to even smaller climate changes or something.

The trem strings just balance the tension from the strings, the need for more springs is judged against that.
New saddles are an upgrade, but I don't believe the tuning issue is due to the stock saddles.

I have heard that changing decals on a headstock will negatively affect tuning stability...

:P

I have the strings wound with the " Tie technique " , and as far as length is concerned, I usually let them go about two posts before I tighten them. I never thought about the nut, thanks. It was pretty dirty when I got it. That's probably the issue here.

I've heard that the mortality rate down in Texas is pretty high due to the high rate of inbreeding as well.

It's interesting how people from the northeast often immediately go for the "inbred redneck" punch when arguing with a person from the south...makes you think that they aren't intelligent or witty enough to come up with a sufficiently articulate and fitting reply.

It also indicates that they have never actually visited those areas, whereas they would see that the stereotype is very far away from the truth.

My retort was meant in good humor (or humour for our friends across the pond), as evidenced by the emoji.

Well then sir, I do sincerely apologize for my remark. You should've said so when posting it. I do accept your apology as well . :)

Stereotypes are usually based in a good measure of truth, but they are not universally true. My first trip to the US was to San Angelo, TX. Later, I met my (then) fiancee in New Mexico.
The stereotypes absolutely hold some truth for the far south. People drove huge trucks with gun racks, and had and enormous belt buckles to compensate for what wasn't beneath them, called each other "son", were ignorant of anything that happened in foreign countries (including anything north of Alabama).
Not everybody were like that. Not even a majority. But enough that the stereotype was recognizable.
Same up here - we aren't all lawyers, doctors, prisses or crackheads. But enough are that the stereotypes have value.
For the 20 or so states I have visited, if I were given the stereotypes after the fact, and asked to peg each state, I probably would have most of them pat.

I wasn't apologizing. I was just noting how you went for a cheap shot, after misreading the intention of my comment.

Also, I find it interesting that you will arrogantly "accept" my (non-) apology and self-righteously reply to the majority of Forumites who feel you're doing something shady (at best), unethical (at least) and illegal (at most) in regards to your water slide labels...and you've done this on multiple occasions. Perhaps you need to re-examine your sense of self-worth and self-importance.

My original statement (whether anyone found it humorous or not) was all in good jest and good nature...your reply was hateful, prejudiced and ignorant.

I will accept your apology, because I don't think you know any better, bless your heart.

Yes, stereotypes are based or slivers of truth.
I wear boots and I like bar-b-q disproportionately than other parts of the country.

However, incorrect and unintelligent statements making light of sexual abuse and incest (which unfortunately occurs in every culture and region of the world) is asinine, unfunny and hateful.

I'm not trying to be arrogant if you think that's the case here. I do tend to be very impulsive which is something I am trying hard to work on. I have a really bad habit of doing before I think and it's something I'm not proud of. I've been trying to change that.

Not to be argumentative, but how did you know that? :?
