The day I got my 2013 Fender American Special Stratocaster, I named her "Blythe" after a very special woman in my life.

So I am curious to know what name did you give YOUR "Number One" and the reason behind said name?

My Telecaster is named "Big Tex" because that explains her tone.
With a flat-pole Tele pickup in the bridge position, a P90 in the neck position, a Fender No-Load tone pot and 4-way switching, it can go from Jimmie V to Willy G to Waylon J to Albert C to Stevie Ray, all with a flip of a switch or the twist of a knob or the movement of my picking hand...all are prototypical Texas artists, so the availability of Big Texas Tones made the name very apt.

My "other" #1 (1.5 ?) is called Fiesta Red because of her finish.

Thank you for drawing to my attention an interesting inconsistency in my life. I name my vehicles but it never occurred to me to name my guitars. My current daily driver is Dave. My Bimmer is Max. My Katoom is Hal.

Now that I think about it, names are much more useful with guitars than they are with vehicles. How many vehicles does the average person own? One? Two? The average guitarist prolly owns a whole lot more than that. Naming them would make keeping track of which one you're talking about a lot easier. Especially since you can have multiples of the same kind of guitar, like Strats for example.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Nice guitar there OP! No names for guitars here other than by color to define which one.

You are very welcome.

Yeah, I noticed that master guitarist named their guitars such as B.B. King's Lucille, Eric Clapton's Blackie and Stevie Ray Vaughan's Number One. I figured if they can do it, so can I!!!

... And so my 1993 Fender Stratocaster - Squier series is called "My Number One" because that is the first of 3 strats that I would own over the years.

Then there is the aforementioned "Blythe"

My 2010 Fender Telecaster - Blacktop series is called "My Slide Guitar" because I play slide on it exclusively.

Also, I take notes regarding knob settings on my amplifier (with effect pedals) for each guitar so naming the guitar DOES help me keep track of everything in my rig.

I've always called my guitars by what they are (My guitar) or the type of guitar (My electric, my classical, my bass) or by the brand (My Fender) or the model (My Mustang)

I had never thought to name my guitar. The only other guitar I have known to be named is B.B. Kings famous, Lucille.

Charlene is the name I gave to my 2000 Fender Telecaster. It was the first "nice" guitar I could afford and Charlene is the name Vincent D'onofrio's character Gomer Pyle gives his rifle in "Full Metal Jacket" - one of my favorite movies.

Stevie Ray Vaughn also called his "go to" guitar 'Lenny'.

My Harmony is named Harry (Harry Harmony) and my white Strat is named Sally.
The movie "When Harry Met Sally" is somewhat coincidence.

My Tele is named Blondie (because of color), and when I had a MIM Standard Tele black & white that I didn't care for (I traded for a Hot Rod DeVille 4x10) I named him Dagwood.
The old t.v. show and cartoon strip Blondie & Dagwood is NOT a coincidence.

My Kay acoustic is simply named Kay.
My Fender CD-60 acoustic is named Jeruk...which is the Indonesian term for Orange.

My Highway 1 Strat is simply named Freddy Fender....I know; hack at best...but what can I say?

And the Squire Bullet I am completely modifying right now does not yet have a name.

I don't name my guitars. I do form a sort of bond with them, but mostly in the way that a carpenter might have a favorite hammer or something like that.

Emotional attachments to instruments are hard to avoid, but to me... these are crayons in a box. I have multiple guitars because they do different things. Make different sounds. Influence my playing by feeling different in my hands and sounding different through my amp.

My wife, on the other hand, refers to them as the "white one" the "gold one" the "blue one" the "red" one... and so on...
