Hey guys, I am extremely lucky today. I just scored this from a cat on Craig's List in my home town here in Woonsocket. It's a mid 90's , USA made , Roc-Pro 700 which sounds great. I traded a Sony Boombox and about 75 CDs for it. IMO, definitely worth it. What do you all think ?

Nice score :D

I don't really like the look and I imagine it must weigh a bit?
As long as it sounds great it's good :D

I had a Roc-Pro 1000. Very similar amps.
Decent amp for the price. Good bang for the buck.
You will prolly like it. There's not a lot to complain about for a S/S amp, except the speaker.
You will want to replace the stock speaker if it has not already been replaced.
The stocker flabs out and farts pretty easily when you try to get some volume out of it.

Actually , it only weighs in at around 28 lbs and even though it says 200 watts on the back, it's actually a 70 watt combo amp. It's a hybrid Tube /Solid State which has a 12AX7 in the chassis and the gain on this, can be used for Metal which is quite rare for a Fender amp. I just got done fooling around with it and it actually sounds better than my 1988 Fender Studio 85 combo. My Squier Affinity Strat sounds great through this amp.

It's not really what most would call a hybrid tube amp. It's solid state in both the preamp and power amp sections, with the tube only used for a clipping effect outside the actual amp sections.

It's like a gasoline powered car with electric steering - that doesn't make it a hybrid, even if it has an electric motor.

Still a good SS amp, from what I've heard. Yngwie Malmsteen used them for a while, I think.

Arth 1, I have to agree with you. This is the best sounding solid state Fender amp that I've ever heard in my 43 years of playing. I'm keeping it stock as is. I now have to get a footswitch for it which shouldn't be a problem. I saw a few on E-Bay for this particular model.

Let me correct that, the ones that I saw, were for the 1000. I just ordered a standard Fender footswitch for 20 bucks on the Bay , which I'm sure will work with this one.

If I'm not mistaken I'm pretty sure the 700 came with a two button switch. Reverb/channel.
I do know the 1000 came with a three button switch. Reverb/channel/boost.

You're right about the footswitch. I did take it to band practice last night where I was able to crank it a bit and I didn't experience any of the " farting " noises you said would come from the stock speaker. As a matter of fact , it sounded great at a higher volume. But I will keep a eye out for it. If it does act up, I'll replace it with a Eminence Texas heat which I have on my Studio 85 .
