Hello Everyone,

This past weekend I purchased and AMAZING Overdrive Pedal by electro-harmonix The Glove OD. I paid with tax just under $70. This pedal is of Boutique quality and I have owned my fair share of those. The Glove OD runs on a 9Volt battery or adaptor. You can also use the internal switch so the pedal runs at 18Volts.

The EHX Glove OD cleans up very nicely with the guitars volume control and it gives your amp a very open organic tone. The pedal also has an external shift switch with boosts the overall volume of the pedal.

The amount of Gain goes from a clean boost to a very usable amount of dirt. What I'm trying to say is - no angry bees buzzing in a tin jar type of tone. Needless to say I'm very pleased with this pedal. The pedal delivers many usable tones and it works very well with your gear.

Give this little monster a shot. I think you'll be VERY Pleased with it.

Take care . NorthernBlues

"Boutique quality" is rather meaningless - there are great boutique effect pedals, and there's abysmal crap, and anything in-between.

I don't doubt that this pedal is better than many boutique pedals, but if it really was that great, EH would have jacked the price up. Which they do for some of their best products - the sales price rarely reflect the production costs, but what the perceived value is to the buyers.

At $70, I'm sure it's a very good pedal - law of diminishing returns and all.
But compared to a good boutique pedal, I doubt it - then it would be far more popular than it is, and because of that, far higher priced. It's been out for well over a year now, and it's not filling up pedalboards. From the reviews I have read, it's designed to be a Fulltone OCD competitor but at a much lower price point. Thus surface mounted components, small pots, and a one year warranty instead of five, like the Fulltone, or lifetime, like many boutique pedals.

I'm sure it's great for the price. Enjoy yours!

Hello arth1,

Thanks for your reply. For $70 yes the EHX Glove Overdrive fulfills its intended purpose very well. It stands proudly with my Fulltone Clyde Deluxe, my 65amps Colour Boost, my Wren and Cuff The Caprid and my Xotic Compressor. Will I keep it forever? Time will tell.
It's a good thing that companies like EHX come up with a really good sounding pedal for the masses. The younger players out there need gear that is affordable and in these economic times great sound for a great price is a good thing for the struggling musician. As far as the popularity of this pedal - I hope it becomes one of those hidden gems. One of those pedals that flies under the radar and then WHAM!! Everybody wants one :D

Take Care Man,
NorthernBlues

Good luck on your purchase. The number of overdrive/fuzz/distortion pedals is overwhelming. I have four and yesterday I went the opposite direction from you. I ordered an Alairex Halo for $399! I'm hoping it's the last OD that I buy. I'm going to sell three and keep the Mad Professor Golden Cello and the Halo. The Golden Cello has a really nice overdrive, but I do a lot of covers and it doesn't do everything I need. I'm hoping the Halo will have more range. I had never heard of the EH Glove OD. Glad you like it, and for $70 it's a cheap experiment.

Hey Drew,

BINGO!!! The overdrive market is TRULY saturated and yes the EHX Glove is just that - a cheap experiment. Good luck with your overdrive search. Sounds like you made a good purchase. I really hope it works out for you. The tone quest we are on is endless. I also own The Fairfield Circuitry Barbershop Overdrive. Kind of spinoff on The Klon. All these companies have their own twist to the overdrive. Makes things both interesting and frustrating. When I purchased the EHX I also picked up some wooden picks they had on their display counter. Another experiment that has worked out for the better.

Good Luck on The Endless Tone Quest. You think you are done and then HELLO what is this?

Regards,
NorthernBlues

Drive pedals - and dirty channels, for that matter - vary wildly, and I think we all look for different things.
I've ordered a Spaceman Aphelion. I want something that has some color to it, and doesn't compress.
If it has the same tonal quality as the Spaceman Sputnik (the best purchase I ever made), I'll be happy.

Hey arth1,

Very, very true. We all have a different concept of tone and tonal qualities. I really hope the Spaceman works out well for you. Take care and enjoy. I hope the Spaceman is the key to your tonal fingerprint.

Congrats on your new pedal.Electro Harmonix has always made top notch pedals and usually at a much lower price than the competition charges.

Hey guitslinger,

Thanks for your reply man. I really like EHX stuff. To be honest, The Big Muff is my favourite. The Glove OD has really opened up a tonal palette for me. I'm really enjoying it and it plays very well with my amps, pedals and guitars. Safe to say, I think it was a good purchase.

Take care and thanks again,
NorthernBlues
