Recently acquired this guitar for low $ at a junk store. I am no expert on vintage Strats, but would love to hear comments and any info about this fun ax.

I have pix on a shared drive folder:

Thanks for looking.

Cheers,

It may be a Squier, but it's gone through some mods - knobs, pickups (the humbucker hole is off)... And those Ping tuners seem to be newer that the rest...
Can't tell the model - maybe there are stamps or stickers in the neck pocket or the cavities.
Or it may be a Partscaster, not necessarily from Fender/Squier parts.
It's a little dubious that someone removed the "Squier" logo (or glued only the remaining part of the sticker to the guitar..?), and that there seems to be no serial number.

But the key is how it plays and sounds - at least there's mojo in those rusty metal bits.

The neck is most certainly a Squier neck...from the 85-90ish era, with the "Squier and Serial Number" removed. The tuners that came with that neck where Gotohs and where of good quality, not sure why they were removed.

The body is not of a color that matches the Squiers of that period and did not come with that neck, so a partscaster for sure. I know because I had one of those Squiers and it was actually a very good guitar...Once I replaced the pickups, pots and bridge saddles!

FWIW.

Thanks for taking time to look and comment. The "partscaster with a Squier neck" seems to make the most sense--and the logo/serial number removal confirms it to me. It does make good noise when I bang on it and is the perfect ax for tossing in the car for those places I don't want to bring my American Standard. $85 for the guitar with a gig bag, strap, and some spare strings makes me feel that it was a good value. Been playing guitar for 40+ years, but mostly acoustics. Only become a solid body user over the past couple of years and have collected too many in that period. (So says my wife. :o )

Thanks again, all, and I look forward to lurking on the Fender boards.
