Today I went to my local mom & pop music store and tried out the new Electro Harmonix B-9 pedal. It only took a couple of notes to make up my mind to buy it,this is one of the most incredible pedals that I have ever seen or used.Owning a couple of vintage Hammonds,I know the Hammond tone pretty well and I have to say that this pedal comes so close-key click and all-that it's uncanny.I played some lead runs and also played the chords to "Angel","Little Wing" and "Something" the way that this little rig copies all the notes and balances the volume between the notes so perfectly,it actually makes the organ tone even more realistic. This little rig can also copy the tone of the old cheesy '60s Vox Jaguar and Farfisa FAST 5 etc. combo organs as well as the majestic tone of a Casavant etc. pipe organ.I have to say that the B-9 is very addictive and it certainly grows on you-to the point that you can't bring yourself to stop trying different tones.Let's think about that....the B-9 pedal grows on you...would that make it like a B-9 tumor???LOL.

And then - why did you buy it ? After all you've got the ''real thing''

Awesome to hear. This pedal is my next purchase. After I can figure out how to justify then pay for it!

@ asgierman,I bought it because it's a lot easier to take to a gig than a 400 lb. Hammond-'nuff said.

Every time that I've sat down to use it yet,I've stumbled onto some other cool setting that would remind me of a certain song.Last night I tried "Smile a Little Smile"..for me Rosemarie by the Flying Machine and it sounded just great,I'm thinking that the intro to "Red Rubber Ball" by the Cyrkle would be well suited for the pedal and doable on the guitar. The salesguy at the store did the intro to "Green-Eyed Lady" by Sugarloaf and it was spot on to the record, this will be one of the most versatile pedals in my effects chain and it very well may make taking even my small keyboard to gigs unnecessary.I don't think that I'll be putting this away until Christmas morning-the missus is going to have to get me something else now....an electric sitar would be great...lol.

It does sound good on that solo during Whiter Shade of Pale.

Hi Mike,"Whiter Shade of Pale" does sound pretty cool with the pedal,I think that I'll give it a go myself, but I don't think I'll be trying anything as ambitious as Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D minor" any time soon.

I was just practicing Invention #8 in F Major right before reading this :D
No organ pedal, though - just boost on a clean channel. But i need a second guitar to play the left hand, and a bass to play the pedal notes.

As I haven't bought an organ pedal yet...
How does the B9 stack up against, say the Earthquaker Devices Organizer?

According to the video I seen for the B9 on MusiciansFriend...the B9 appears to be MUCH more versatile compared to the Earthquaker.
$220.00 (Dollar) price tag though!

I had not seen the Organizer before but it doesn't appear to be as versatile as the B9 with respect to the various kinds of organ sounds and also maybe the quality of the organ sounds. Of course that's just a youtube vid. One thing I did notice right away is the decay. This Organizer appears to decay naturally with the guitar. The B9 is a different animal in that regard. It provides a substantial amount of artificially produced sustain, presumably by recycling part of the signal. The problem with the B9 is that it is unpredictable when the sustain will end. It gives you the feeling like it will sustain indefinitely but it won't. When it's over it's over. Abruptly. I am still learning how to pick up on the clues that tell you the end is near. There are clues but learning to read them effectively is taking some time. I've said this before but it bears repeating. The B9 is prolly not well suited to a novice. This Organizer seems like it might be more user friendly.

My kind of music! + "Whiter Shade of Pale" as well.
Very tempting....we'll see.

I haven't heard the Earthquaker Organizer yet so I can't make a fair comparison, but I have to say that it would have to be something incredible to be anywhere near to being on par with the B-9 pedal.I don't know if there are any one on one comparisons on youtube but I wouldn't be surprised if there are some by now.

They do seem to be very different pedals with a common goal, approaching organ sound from different directions.
Where the B9 has lots of presets for various organ types and try to sound as much like them as possible, the Organizer has a free-flow approach, where you can adjust no fewer than six analog knobs and have no preset at all, and won't let you forget that it's a guitar you're playing.
I may have to give both a try. $410 for both is still less than, say, an Eventide H9.

There's also the Leslie pedal, but that's just, well, Leslie. Which, good as it sounds, is more of a one trick pony.

I have seen and heard the Leslie pedal,I believe that it's actually made by Hammond-Suzuki who now are the sole licence holders of the Leslie brand name.It is a dead ringer for the actual Leslie.I have a Tech 21 NYC RotoChoir which is also incredibly like the actual Leslie in sound and performance,it even ramps up and slows down gradually just like an old L-122 would and also like the old overdriven Leslie you can dial in that trademark growl like you hear on old Steppenwolf songs like "Magic Carpet Ride" "The Pusher" ,it's more versatile than my old Leslie model 16,which just has the rotating fibreboard drum with the lone 12 JBL K-120.You really need to have the rotating horns to get the classic Leslie "Chorale" tone with its ethereal warble and chorus effect.
