Hey guys.
First of all, I apologize as this might upset some, because it's not exactly strictly music topic. But it's all for a good cause so I hope you forgive me.
As some of you might have heard, my country, Slovenia, has recently been devastated by floods. Many believe the floods were caused by chemtrails. Regardless whether they truly were caused by chemtrails or not, the damages caused are real and require money to fix.
So I've started this crowdfunding campaign with the goal to help a struggling family survive through the winter. The campaign will help pay for utility costs, food, possible medical costs, school supplies, etc. If any money is left, I would like to spend it by buying gifts for the children of the family for Christmas, to make a warmer and happier Christmas. Since I am, like most of you, a music geek and I believe music is the one thing that can always make us happy and warm inside, the gifts will be music-related (as long as the parents approve of this). Preferably some instruments (obviously, they won't be expensive ones) that the children might have already expressed desire to learn, or, in case of really small children, toy instruments.
Anyone donating more than 20€ will receive a thank-you email along with the picture of the family, once the campaign ends and I give the money to the family.

You can read more about the campaign and donate on the link below:
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/help ... /x/9142598

Every $/€/pund/schilling/etc count. I wouldn't turn to you otherwise, but I know there are some awesome folks around here that wouldn't think twice before donating to people in-need.
Even if the goal of 1,000 € is not met, which I am sure it will be, the money will be given to a family in need.

Unfortunately I cannot donate to the campaign as I was the one who started it, but I will certainly add some money on top of what we manage to raise.

From the campaign page:

Help make it happen
for Helping the poor and Luka Varga!

The poor, I understand. Been there, done that. But who is Luka Varga?

That's me. That last paragraph is auto-generated and I can't change it, unfortunately. It consists of "Help make it happen for" 'Campaign name' "and" 'Campaign author".

Thanks!
Now open your hearts, folks. Or at least your wallets, if you don't have hearts!

I'm actually thinking about doing my year-abroad in Ljubljana, so I'll definitely try and set some money aside to donate when I get paid this month. Good Luck.

Well, I wonder if this doesn't breach the spirit, if not the letter, of the Forums No Selling rule.

While admittedly not selling a good, this thread nevertheless asks members for money, albeit for a cause, but still.

I'm sure each of us contributes to causes and charities which are close to them as I do to Cerebral Palsy (nephew severely afflicted) and Diabetes (Bro-in-Law dying of it). But this should remain a personal thing IMHO.

It's starting down a very slippery $@!&#.

As there are literally thousands of worthy Charities and Causes out there, if this Forum were to lend itself as a platform for each of them, we would very shortly be wading chest-deep in threads appealing for assistance. Recent Spam issues would virtually pale in comparison.

Hopefully the Moderators will weigh-in on this.

cheers!

I'm glad we have you to teach us about the spirit of things. Merry Christmas.

Two days ago, I went to the grocery store. And witnessed a grumpy man cuss out the Salvation Army guy with the bell, going on on how much he donated elsewhere.
I guess it won't be a holiday without the Grinches letting themselves be known.

As expected...

Glad you didn't disappoint ... !!

We should probably simply agree-to-disagree beforehand on everything, instead of people wasting time perusing our verbal volleyball.

Merry Christmas to you too !!

cheers!

In case you hadn't noticed, the thread is a month old. The crowdfunding thing is over even though if anyone still wants to donate, they know where to find me. I'd already give the money to a family, but we're also talking about throwing a charity concert and adding up the funds, seeing how not very much money was donated. All those who donated will see the money went where it was supposed to go.

If you have a problem with this, Lightnin, why comment at all here? Why not just, I don't know, let it go?
It's not like I just registered my account and opened the thread. I've been here for quite a while, albeit not as active as some..but still.
And FYI, only between 45-55% of the money given to the charities actually reach the people who need the money. I've done my research and that's why I decided to raise the money myself. Have you done yours?

I'm not saying that your cause is unworthy nor inefficient.

I'm simply stating my opinion that this appeal is an inappropriate use of this Forum.

You even apologized beforehand, so you too must think similarly.

I also outlined some of the pitfalls of allowing the Forum to be used in this way.

It's not MY Forum either... I don't make the rules. I choose to abide by them as a condition of my participation.

This is why I asked that the Moderators weigh-in to clarify to everyone whether this is permissible or not.

cheers!
