I'd love to see and hear them live. But I respect Plant a lot more for saying no after such a huge money offer. Perhaps he doesn't want to embarrass and tarnish their legacy? That Live Aid gig in the 80s was pretty bad and his voice is only getting worse.
I would love for them to make new music and change the arrangements on their old pieces so that they could perform them adequately live. It's too bad he wants nothing to do with the rest of the crew anymore.. But it could be that he believes Led Zeppelin without Bonzo is not something that could succeed or is not something that should happen. Could be that he just misses Bonzo too much. Who knows.

I don't blame the other guys for accepting the offer, though. They've always been pretty vocal about wanting to work together, so it's not as if they suddenly changed their minds when an insane amount of money was offered.

I for one don't blame Plant for not wanting to do it. As many have said already , he can't do what he did years ago with his voice , so why go out there and cheat the people out of what they expect ? Plus, I saw a recent concert of his on Palladium last week and his current material is just outstanding , so I can see why he wouldn't want to go back and relive the past .

I totally agree... Let's face it. Robert Plant has aged and it shows. He is not (nor will he ever be) the wailing, long blond haired "rock god" lead vocalist, that he used to be.

I think everyone is being a little hard on Plant. I think it was 2006 or so that Zeppelin reformed for that one benefit concert, and I ... for one ... was shocked at how good they were.

Oh, please ... Do you mean all the drummers out there that get to stand on his shoulders and also the shoulders of those that were heavily influenced by him?? The reason those "countless drummers" are as good as they are is BECAUSE OF primarily Bonzo and Neil Peart (... and to a lesser degree Keith Moon and Ian Paice).

As soon as yomammaaho used Peart as an example...I gave up this particular fight. Not to take anything away from Neil Peart, he is great, but he has a way, wwwaaayyy different stile all together.

In 2012 I went to Banff for the weekend in early September with a couple guys on a bike trip through the mountains. We had supper at a pub on the first night, think it might have been called The Rose & Crown but not positive. We stayed after supper because they were going to have live music. To our pleasant surprise a Led Zeppelin tribute band came on. It was phenomenal. Don't recall the name of the band and all of the pics I took with my phone were unusable. The members of the band all looked almost exactly like the real members. The singer looked like a young Plant in the mid 70's. Guitarist was the spittin' image of Page, etc. They had the right clothes too, with the bell-bottomed velour pants and the psychedelic shirts with a collar 7 inches long, platform shoes, etc. Appropriate gear, including a beautiful SG double-neck and they sounded so much like Zeppelin it was like a time warp. They didn't copy the songs exactly, note for note, which pleased me. They played them with little deviations just like the band would have done, playing live. Solos had enough original content so as to be recognizable but enough variation that it was very believable. It was awesome. It was like stroking off an item on a strictly-fantasy bucket list.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Robert Plant is just saving himself the embarrassment.

The music he does as a solo artist, is written for his "now" voice...and even if he throws in a Zeppelin tune live, he can and does keep the octaves and tones to a comfortable level, and is not questioned about it---because it is Plant, not Zeppelin.

Don't get me wrong...I am not (nor could I ever) putting Plant or Zeppelin down.
Led Zeppelin will ALWAYS be in my top five (regardless of who has come along, or will come along)...and I love each surviving member on their own as well. Just telling you what I believe is going through Robert Plant's head.

P.S.- I am 47 years old...and in my life time, and in my opinion, there has never been a drummer (living or dead) that even comes close to John Henry Bohnam---Chris Slade of The Firm came close, but no cigar. Powerful, and un-stoppable.

While Bonzo was an amazing drummer at the time, there's just countless of drummers today that would give him a run for his money.

Neil Peart another challenger.

+1 :!: :!:

Of course he does ... but in terms of level of influence for decades it was those two guys leading the pack by far. Don't think so? Ask some drummers late 70s and 80s ... they'll tell you.

I believe you, and completely agree, Peart gets all the credit he deserves. Tommy Lee (for one) would absolutely mention Neil Peart first and foremost. Peter Chris too.

Okay, you convinced me .. John Bonham and Neil Peart were not major influences for drummers for decades. I don't know what I was thinking ... Stupid me ...

I saw Zep on the 4th night of 6 shows at The Garden back in 77 and it was a great show but not one of my top ten favorites. One reason I guess is that I wish I was a little older (15) and didn't know their catalog like I would. But the other bummer was that the only songs they played off of Zep 1 and 2 were Black Mountainside- Moby Dick- and Whole Lotta Love, also no Rock & Roll or Black Dog and I think a 23 minute version of No Quarter was overkill. Though Ten Years Gone, Since I"ve Been Loving You and Achilles Last Stand still bring a smile to my face when I think back. I also remember Bohnams drum solo as being the best I ever saw with The Garden going Black and every time he hit a drum skin that drum would turn a fluorescent color, so by the time he was in warp speed it looked f#cking awesome.I actually still have the set list written down from that night-

1-Song Remains the Same
2-The Rover/Sick Again
3- Nobody's Fault But My Own
4-In My Time of Dying
5-Since I've Been Loving You
6-No Quarter- ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz lol
7-Ten Years Gone
8-The Battle of Evermore
9-Going to California
10- Dancing Days
11-Black Country Woman/Bron-Yr Aur Stomp
12-White Summer/ Black Mountainside
13-Out on the Tiles/Over the Top/ Moby Dick- Drum solo
14- Kashmir
15- Pages solo spot-started in a chair with the bow
16Achiles Last Stand
17-Stairway to Heaven
Encore- Trampled Under Foot

So I guess any 15 year old waiting to hear most of the classics from the first 5 albums would be a little bummed out. I also remember the show was well over 3 hours and they posted on The Gardens tivker that Zep had just played the longest show in Garden history that night .

I read about Plant ripping up the 800 million contract in the NY Post which carried the story here. I am also certain Page and Plant must be sick lol, as it stated it was supposed to be for 35 shows. But at almost 70 I agree with those who stated Plant knows he can't sing those songs anymore and I give him kudos for not just taking the money and running and caring about embarrassing himself. Though I kind of feel for Jones, especially when they went out and toured as Page and Plant and didn't even ask him to play.It is well known there were hard feeling over that one. I really would love to see Page hook up with someone though and put out some music. $@!& Beck may have had the best decade of his career the last 10 years with Live at Ronnie Scotts- Becks R&R Party tribute to LesPaul- Emotion and Commotion -Playing The Garden with Clapton as well as freakishly playing better then ever. Probably monetarily the best decade of his career as so many guy forget that unlike Page-Clapton- Blac more, or whoever you want to insert Jeff was never in a huge band that sold massive units of albums and doesn't have the scratch like Clapton or Page. Besides they are such close mates I think that would be an awesome bill-Beck and Page. I know I would pay to see them any day of the week.
