I just read on Facebook that Sir Richard Branson of Virgin , offered Led Zeppelin a $800 million dollar contract to reform but singer Robert Plant turned down the offer. The article didn't say why but I'm guessing he's happy with his own solo career. Besides , he has more than enough moolah to last him until he's gone , so just how much money do you need in life to be happy anyway ? I'm sure he gets plenty of royalties just from the sales of Zeppelin CD's which to this day, still continue to sell.

I thought there was a rift between Plant and Page. Plant stating he would "never work with Page" again or something to that effect. Anyone.........

If they were to 'reunite', they would be expected to perform all of the music that made them popular as Led Zeppelin. Robert Plant can no longer hit the notes that he used to, and would sound terrible.
Robert Plant is just saving himself the embarrassment.

The music he does as a solo artist, is written for his "now" voice...and even if he throws in a Zeppelin tune live, he can and does keep the octaves and tones to a comfortable level, and is not questioned about it---because it is Plant, not Zeppelin.

Don't get me wrong...I am not (nor could I ever) putting Plant or Zeppelin down.
Led Zeppelin will ALWAYS be in my top five (regardless of who has come along, or will come along)...and I love each surviving member on their own as well. Just telling you what I believe is going through Robert Plant's head.

P.S.- I am 47 years old...and in my life time, and in my opinion, there has never been a drummer (living or dead) that even comes close to John Henry Bohnam---Chris Slade of The Firm came close, but no cigar. Powerful, and un-stoppable.

I tend to agree that Plant's vocal range is a factor in his not wanting to try to recreate Zeppelin's past. Truthfully, the idea of Page strutting around a stage like a young rock god, with his white hair, doesn't really appeal to me much.
But I don't understand why Plant wouldn't want to work on a new project with them that takes into account their age. If they downplayed the theatrics and put together some serious new music, I'd be up for that.

There's more to life than money. Robert Plant seems like one of the few who isn't for sale, and I don't think anyone has the right to fault him for that.

I'm more disgusted with those who initially say no and claim it's because of something besides money, and then say yes when more money is on the table.

Obviously more to life than money. $800,000,000.00 was the offer on the table for 3 cities (Berlin, London, and Jersey)---it is not clear how many shows per city.
It is said, Page and Jones could not sign quick enough...but Plant was reported to have said "give me 48 hours, to mull it over", and then tore the contract up immediately after saying that.

Of course anything that we say is speculation, because there is no way of knowing what was going through Mr. Plants head at the time. And I don't think anyone is "faulting" him for anything.

A few years back Plant stated word to the affect of "We're not human (*&)#ng jukeboxes" when asked about rehashing Led Zepplin tunes for a reunion.

Yeah Great News! Never really liked LZ much back in the day anyway so not really interested in hearing lame versions of songs that were way over rated anyway.

Yes, and I think it was well said. A reunion without new material now would just be old men doing bad covers of their younger selves, because others tell them to.
If you want to see LZ at their best, buy the Led Zeppelin 2-DVD box set. It's well worth the money, and the artists will get their (always too small) share.

Lots of stuff...Clapton, .38 Special, Buddy Guy, ZZ Top, Black Cherry Smoke, even like me some Kid Rock. I just never liked Jimmy pages guitar work, especially live, he was sloppy at best.

I totally agree... Let's face it. Robert Plant has aged and it shows. He is not (nor will he ever be) the wailing, long blond haired "rock god" lead vocalist, that he used to be.

I don't think he could ever sing "Communication Breakdown" like he did back in the day. Today, he'd probably have to sing it 2 octaves down!

Yea...yea...

I totally get the bit about potentially tarnishing an iconic Rock God past, but c'mon folks... we're talking $300M Samolians here...

Plant never went much past middle school and it shows... the others signed the contract so fast that there was fear the paper would ignite !!

Heck, I saw him on the Page/Plant Tour in the late 90's, and his loss of vocal range didn't seem to bother him then... (though maybe it should have...)

Saw him this year at Jazzfest w/ the Sensational Space Shifters...

Oh how the Mighty have fallen...

Turning down $300M for 5 gigs, imho, doesn't speak so much to his integrity as a musician as it does being a signal of the onset of Senile Dimentia... !!

cheers!

While Bonzo was an amazing drummer at the time, there's just countless of drummers today that would give him a run for his money.
