Ok, I love my Fender Strat, and I love Fender Merchandise, but is it too much to ask that they do a minimum of research on their stuff?

Axis and Allies, and the "axis" representative is clearly a 'Soviet' style poster? did no one know that the Soviets were on OUR SIDE during WWII???

The Axis, and correct me if I'm wrong on this, consisted of Germany, Japan, and Italy, and yet the 'Axis' plaque from fender features a large red star.

Huh?

Or it it close enough for Rock and Roll?

You're right. The red star does invoke a Soviet style and yes, the Soviets were not part of the Axis. Then again, the Soviets weren't really on anyones side but their own. Patton was right to want to keep marching to Moscow. It would have saved a lot of heartache in the long run.

That's how I play the blues. Soviets were in the Axis when they went into Poland, but not after the Nazis attacked them.

You're right about the inaccuracy, but if you just had them hanging around on the wall, I doubt anyone would be offended.

I've got one of those Fender metal signs. The Mojo Oil one. It's very cool. I'm gonna have to get one of the newer ones now too.

The behind-the-scenes story here is that this product was actually supposed to be renamed before officially going into production and somehow that 't' didn't get crossed or 'i' dotted. I forwarded this thread to the fellow who actually designed these signs earlier today and he got a chuckle -- he was never intending the designs to be taken so literally as far as representing one faction or another, and he's the guy who had originally pointed out that the name "Axis & Allies" needed a rethink.

Anyway, an interesting anecdote from Fender history. :-) Oh, and I got a good "I told you so" out of this thread too -- last week I questioned the wisdom of featuring this particular product in our latest installment of Fender E-mail News but was overruled. In short, thanks for the post as you've proven me right. :-) LOL!

Maybe this will teach them to listen to the person who has a finger on the pulse of the customer base.

2 things:

I think it's named wrong...becuase the description said "Postwar" which would mean communism vs capitalism, as leo began in the birth canal of the cold war.

second...YOU FORGOT A COMBATANT! THE AXIS ALSO HAD ROMANIA LOL.

i say lol becuase they were so insignificant most history books forgot them. only the old old history buffs remember that anymore.

In WW2 the Axis was Germany; Italy , and Japan.
The Soviets were a RELUCTANT member of the "ALLIES" that became The United Nations (yes the organisation we still have with us today) Forces.
Stalin (the head of the Soviet Union at the time) trusted VERY FEW people least of all foreigners like Churchill (England's war time leader) and Roosevelt (the leader of the US); Stalin felt that the west (that's us and England) were putting off invading Europe so as to allow Germany to "bleed us (so Stalin said) white" so the Soviets would be weakened enough for the Allies to defeat after Germany surrendered.
After the war; as a very cold political wind blew in from Moscow; Stalin was asked by the western press if he and his country didn't feel any gratitude towards the west; he said "gratitude is the response of a dog" keeping in mind the Soviets lost over 20 million people in the war and actually (IMHO) destroyed the best of German army. The Germans had lost so many men in the war aginst the Soviets (3.3 million men with 3 million "permanate" casualties) they drafted many foreigners and placed them in France for D day including Koreans! This was how hard up the German army was for soldiers!
IMHO Fender shouldn't include such political issues in their merchandise; I would rather see something like the posters of ww2 used to motivate labor and recycling to promote Fender products.

End of History lesson and opinion for today!
Class Dismissed!

It's always nice to have you opinion confirmed by an outside source. I thought maybe it was named after the board game "Axis and Allies" at first as well. hee hee

Cheers, and to all at Fender: Keep up the great work!
