Hi,

I have seen various topics about instrumental songs, solos, etc. I just wanted to start a thread that has songs that guitar parts you love. It could be rhythm or leads. Here are some of my favorites and these are not in a preferred order;

1. Prince solo in “While my Guitar Gently Weeps” on the George Harrison Tribute.
2. Jimi Hendrix in “Voodoo Chile” with Stevie Winwood.
3. Leslie West in “Theme for an Imaginary Western.”
4. Alvin Lee in “I’m Going Home” live.
5. Robin Trower “I Can’t Wait Much Longer” live.
6. Johnny Winter and Rick Derringer in “It’s My Own Fault” live.
7. Jimi Hendrix “Red House” from Smash Hits.
8. Eric CLapton in his Unplugged set.
9. Jimmy Page in “Song Remains the Same/Rain Song” live

I love the soloing and rhythm parts of these songs. Look forward to hear your ideas.

See the Light -- Jeff Healey Band

Lots of guitar to love coming from a guy who played his Strat on his lap!

Saw Jeff about 4 or 5 months before he passed and it was a most interesting show. I was very surprised to see that for most of the show he stood up at a mic stand with his guitar slung over his shoulder with a strap and played normally, just like a sighted man would. Only for a couple of songs did he sit and play on his lap using that over top of the fretboard style he's known for. See The Light and one other which escapes me.

There was a very funny moment that most people missed altogether but it had me in stitches. Jeff was playing stage left, bassist in the middle and this large, heavyset fellow in a plaid lumberjack shirt was on stage right playing a Les Paul. I forget which song it was but every time it came around to this one spot I could hear cacophony for two beats. It was a transition chord that wasn't quite right. After it happened 3 times, Jeff stopped singing the lyrics and looked over to his right and spoke into the mic sideways, "Hey, that's a C sharp there big guy," and dove right back into the lyrics facing forward without skipping a beat. I just split a gut and people were looking at me, wondering what the hell I was laughing at. The look on the big guy's face was priceless. Like Homer Simpson stuttering, "D'oh! D'Oh! D'Oh!"

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

BMW, I agree with your comments about Jeff, he's a really great performer. Those kind of things are what make these guys so great.
The reason I mentioned Johnny Winter is that here is a guy playing a 12 string guitar strung with six strings, using a thumb pick, playing slide, and singing and never missing a beat. He was like a guitar playing machine.

Any of AC/DC's material with the late Bon Scott. To me , that's when the band was in their prime and Angus Young was going full throttle on his SG. Just about every solo he did back in those days was pure energy.
