On the original 54 did it have a tone control for the bridge PU? I always thought that no tone on the bridge PU was a vintage feature or kinda a tradition because the super trebly sound was the thing back in olden times.

No, the original did not. You are correct, that's the way they were back in the day.

I'm not sure whether the string tree had been moved down from the G string to the B string by 1954, but I'm pretty sure that the original used a round one.
And likely came with a nut cut for thicker strings and a wound G string too.

I have a round tree on one of mine that I ordered from StewMac or Warmoth and I really like the look of it. For some reason I don't like the standard ones. Also, like the classic style tuners.

You're right. The original did have a round string tree. My best friend has a 1994 USA made reproduction which is one out of 1954 that were made that year . His has the round string tree on it . He bought it right when it came out that year and he still has it. The neck on it is like a baseball bat and not like the Strats we've come to know to love and play today.

1954 was the first year of the Stratocaster, and every one that I've seen from that year have all had the string tree at the 5th string (A) tuner just like mine, and yes the string tree was round, also like mine.

I've heard that the pickups change a little as they age. Do any of you know what the differences are? Do the highs mellow a bit or something? I've never done an A/B with a new one and an old one. I assume that's the big deal with the "PAF" humbuckers, they can make the exact same specs but it won't sound the same for 30 years or so.

Not sure Matt, but I can say that out of all the guitars I've ever played in my life, which is well over a hundred, out of all of them, this one sounds, plays, and feels the best.

It has some kind of mojo to it, simply incredible. Each time I feel the neck, amazing. Every time I hear the pickups through an amp, mind blowing, I've never heard anything like it, except for Stratocaster's that were actually made in 1954, and Clapton's sound.
