The song "Quadrophenia" by the Who is one of my favorites. "Last Ride In" by Green Day is pretty cool also.

How about Stevie Ray Vaughan amazing instrumental called "Riviera Paradise"?

Jazzy chords, very tasty guitar licks, and also an incredible keyboard player in the band!

That one, Lenny, and Scuttlebuttin are 3 of my favorites.

Whoa! I've collected so many instrumental faves since my youth. Some are oddities and lesser known especially with experimental stereo LPs. It's great to have digital replace my worn out versions, although some are nowhere to be found as it will take many years to transfer all that's out there, and many will get lost.

Here's my favourite version of Night Train (which released as a single).

The rest of the album is just okay IMHO; but, I couldn't find the single which I preferred.

There's WAYYYYYYYYY too many great instrumentals from the master - Chet Atkins, but I have to say this one has some great memories for me when I was first learning to play guitar...

Some of my favorites (about to become my playlist for today)

- Grant Green "Blues in Maude's Flat" (on Grandstand)
- Joe Pass - "Here's that Rainy Day" (on Joe Pass Virtuoso)
- "'Round Midnight" (same album)
- Kenny Burrell -- another version of 'Round Midnight (Blue Muse)
"Midnight Blue" (Midnight Blue)
- Charlie Christian w/ Benny Goodman Orchestra (entire disc)

These were some of my early influences. And while not influences on my style, definitely on how I think about guitar (you can play melodies like the keyboard player, not just straight rhythm or single line "leads"), we'd have to include Chet Atkins (many, many choices) and Les Paul (again, lots of choices). So to round out the list,

Chet Atkins - "Autumn Leaves" (a classic "keyboard" song played on guitar)
Les Paul - not originally an instrumental, but I'd close with "I'm Sitting on Top of the World"

Man, I didn't realize that was an ARP 2600 synth until he turned around and started messing with the slider pots. I had the loan of one of those back in, I think, 1974. It was awesome, amazingly easy to figure out (even for me who had never even seen a synth before), and it's all analog. One of my favourite examples of a good user interface design.

Cliffs of Dover - Eric Johnson
Classical Gas - Mason Williams (full orchestra version)
Scatterbrain - Jeff Beck
Sophie - N Michael Walden (by way of Jeff Beck)
Birds of Fire - John McLaughlin/Mahavishnu Orchestra

I would have included Europa by Carlos Santana, but I made the mistakeof trying to play it in front of an audience (well rehearsed...) and kinda didn't do so hot.
