Now that I'm back in a band and using a Epi 56 Gold Top , I am seriously considering selling my 2 Acoustics so that I can add a Strat to my rig. My acoustics are a 1999 Fender DG20S and a new , Fender CD60CE which is in the Mahogany finish and comes with the HS case. I don't want to bring them to GC cause I know I'll be lowballed as far as a trade offer is concerned. I was thinking maybe around $425.00 for the both of them or hopefully I can find somebody on Craig's List who'd be willing to do a straight trade for a Strat. I haven't touched either one of them in a week and have been grooving on the electric .

If memory serves me you got rid of all your electrics a year ago and went acoustic, the CD60CE only purchased a month ago. Now you want to dump the acoustics and go back to electric. This impulsive behavior is costing you money.

I'd go the trade route if you can....find someone who wants to dump his electric for acoustics...we know they're out there :) . I don't think you can get $425.00 on Craigslist for the two acoustics....more like $300.00.

Or save up any gigging money you make and buy a used standard strat.

Good luck.

My only advice is that it really doesn't need to be an "either/or" scenario. Acoustic and Electric guitars are tools and they both have their uses. If you have more than one acoustic. Keep the one you dig most, and then get yourself an electric you really, really like and won't be anxious to part with. Don't rush into it. Impulse buying is never a good thing. Your band may want to do some "unplugged" performances. Those are popular. Keep one acoustic in the stable.

You've been "back with the band" for one practice and now you're ready to jump the gun again.

What's the wife think? You do like to bounce around, that's for sure.

I would presume it's for others to read. "Chatting in the lounge", so to speak.

With a post count of 3 over three years, perhaps you should hang around a bit and find out how it works. Perhaps you'll feel like posting something too.

Oh, I get it now.
My inexperience caused me to not recognize the point of a more experienced member.

OK let me try
I'm considering practicing on my Strat this afternoon. I practiced with the Tele yesterday. I guess it would be alright to use the Strat again but maybe I should use both or just the Tele.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Keep your acoustics, start a fund for new electrics. Hide the gear you're not using, that way the wife does not see it all the time and forgets how many you have. I need a way to bring new stuff in without getting caught with it.

I've decided to keep the acoustics guys. After all , I did invest a lot into them and it would be a shame to let them go, especially the CD60CE which really is a great guitar. I can bide my time for now as far as getting a Strat is concerned. I just have to stop being so impulsive.

I do the same thing, always thinking and working out deals or builds in my mind. When I start thinking of selling off stuff to get other stuff, I remind myself of all the times I've regretted it after a while. Or, that it's really hard to trade up or even, for that matter. It seems you always loose a little in the process.

I'm now really glad that I didn't sell my Acoustics. Last night I went to go jam with the guys only to see that the drummer had been drinking most of the day and was clearly in no condition to play. I said to hell with this and went home. I'm a recovered alcoholic with 13 years of sobriety and I don't need to be around this . I was assured by the drummer that his drinking would not be a issue when I rejoined the guys. I guess he was wrong and I don't want to be around that type of environment. So, I'll just look for a gig with people who are pros.

+1000

Congrats on your recovery and I'm sure you'll find people that put a greater priority on their music than their drinking.

By the way, in my band I primarily use my electrics, but I also use my acoustic on about 10% of the songs, so your acoustic won't go to waste.
