For starters, I'm playing guitar on this particular performance. I realize that it's somewhat out of tune, but I still really want to like it for some reason...this was my punk band's, Sanity Vamp, last gig. We have never rehearsed this song and only played it as an encore. I'd love feedback from you guys as I am always desperately looking to become a better guitarist.

InsanityVamp, for an unrehearsed punk version, not bad :D
As far as "desperately looking to become a better guitarist." I think that you know exactly precisely how good you are and that kind of good has potential to be very lucky, and, that brand of lucky means time in work to stay razor sharp. Stay focused, don't get distracted, don't get frustrated, remember the words of Grace Cook, Eddie's Mom, "Listen to the inner voice, A higher wisdom is at work for you". Music, have fun, it's "about to begin".

I don't think it's bad at all. You sounded pretty damn good as far as I'm concerned.

Those will certainly be words that I remember. Thank you!

Not bad at all. However there is no reason to ever play something if your not in tune. It take seconds to tune your guitar. But it was still good :D

I enjoyed it. One change I think could've added some more spice to it would've been to do the intro slow, then kick up the tempo.

Careful with the use of words like "ever".

If you play an open tuning with instruments that use just intonation, you want to be out of tune with respect to a tuner or a piano.

And if you play an electric 12-string, you may want one string of each of the pairs of identical strings to be just ever so slightly off-tune - they will vary slightly no matter how good you are at tuning, but if they are too close, you can get standing harmonics. If fed through a fuzz pedal, the effect can be quite jarring, and remedied by detuning just slightly.
If you don't have a 12-string, you can observe the effect by bending a string to the same note as an adjacent string. Which is why many of us consciously or subconsciously make all our bends just slightly flat - not enough to notice.

Definitely yes, unless you're that weird breed of indie rock lover such as me that likes controlled disonance :p this however was not an appropriate time. I solo wayyy too much on a less than professional setup to stay in tune for a whole song, and with a tune like Voodoo Child my strat would have slipped right out XD

Soon I will start sharing my own music with you guys! I have aspirations to make music a career, as SolidBodyLoveSongs already predicted, so I appreciate the feedback. Here's a Dinosaur Jr. cover from the same night, and it contains one of the most natural sounding guitar solos I've ever played I think.

I thought it sounded great. I did not really notice it being out of tune. Given, the shaky audio recording and style of music played. I'm sure the entire band sounded much more in tune if you were there. I do have a question for you. What mode do you play back-in-forth with the blues scale to get that solo phrasing? Are you picking up notes from the major scale (avoiding the 3rd) or are you going with something like Phrygian?

Thanks! Honestly Deluxe, it seems I "unconsciously" try to incorporate notes from the Phrygian mode and the major scale in different positions along the fretboard. I never thought about it before really so thank you for that question! If you watch the "understanding Jimi Hendrix's gesture" video on youtube he plays a very flamenco sounding solo which I believe incorporates the phrygian mode heavily. I learned a lot from that video and just tried to put my own flavor on some of those techniques =)

Cool, I like the interest it adds to the phrasing. The modal variation then resolved with the blues licks. You could probably do well in a Jimi cover band, no joke. I was in an Elvis cover band for a while (boring for a guitar player but Elvis had a good time) and as lame as that sounds people loved it. We just did a few small time shows but the turnout was surprising, and the crowd REALLY got into it. The reason I mention the Jimi cover band is that you seem to really connect with his music and it shows. That's something a crowd will respond too. Not saying you should only do that, but it could pay some bills. Keep up the good work.

Thanks a lot man. I've considered a Jimi cover band, but where I live it is difficult to find musicians interested in anything other than hardcore and punk =/ I plan on leaving Arizona and moving somewhere that I can really network, play shows, and build a wide plate of opportunities. I'm hesitant to hop on the tribute train though, as I'm afraid that when I gain a following it would be something like Randy Hansen. All people would want to hear is Hendrix covers XD But I do need some help paying the bills...hmm.
