One thing Ive noticed. A lot of people are worried about the "tone" things are said in. My thought is those are the same kind of people who want to broadcast their personal problems to the entire world via the www.
When someone posts something for the entire world to see, trying to get sympathy, someone should expect to get negative feedback as well. So go the pitfalls of trying to get attention via the interwebs.

Quite the generalization! I, for one, never posted anything for sympathy AND rarely stray from discussions on the musical theme. I'm not at all aware of the posting that apparently precipitated this whole thread, BUT (now straying from discussion of musical topics) I'm tired of people using the 'freedom of speech' as a license to be caustic to others. When I referred to his tone, it was in reference to responses made numerous times, on musical matters, and when I saw this thread, I was glad I'll not have to sort through, and again ignore such behavior.

I wasn't going to post anything on this thread but since it seems that there are still a few people around who are too obtuse to see the purpose of my original thread and are still trying to make me out a whining sympathy seeker I'm compelled to come to my own defence yet again.Unlike whining sympathy seekers, ever since I started posting about the ongoing problems with my hands and the progress and setbacks,I have always managed to pepper my posts with humorous and often off the wall comments.I also stated that I have dedicated almost 40 years of my life working closely with physically disabled children, some of whom have absolutely horrendous conditions to cope with such as ending up quadriplegics after being struck by a drunk driver or having over 70% of their flesh melted from their little bodies after being trapped in their cribs in a house fire. After seeing some of the things these little heroes bravely face believe me,any conditions or maladies I have to contend with simply pale in comparison and as I made quite clear in a previous post,I would never dare to whine or seek attention or sympathy because of my ailments.

I am also the .Vice Chair of the Long Term Pain Association of Newfoundland and Labrador and part of my duties in that position are to travel across the province speaking to people about all aspects of chronic pain such as a general overview of how it starts and how and why it continues after all signs of the original injury have disappeared etc. A big part of my duties are to provide empathy, encouragement and positive reinforcement for others who are burdened with this very misunderstood condition. So to those of you who doubt my reasons for posting,do you really think that a whining, complaining sympathy seeker would partake in.It is bloody well obvious now just exactly who is doing the whining and it bloody well isn't me.So if you still have a problem with that why don't you do something useful, join the forces, get posted to Afghanistan and then tap-dance across a few minefields.

It was supposed to be a generalization.
But I do notice, many want those who would post negatively to ignore posts they don't like, yet you state you don't want to be bothered with having to ignore posts or "behavior" you deem "caustic".
Just a little hypocritical, don't you think?
Course that just seems to be the way anymore.
Just sayin.

I know this is a crazy time and place to inquire about this, but I am very interested in this. I face a similar problem to your own and I have found your journey to stay in music inspirational. That's why I asked you about the meds in the other thread. It has been recommended for me. I have been dealing with this for over 5 years now and find myself slowly slipping away. I never felt that you were seeking sympathy or whining about anything. However, I have the unique perspective of understanding what it's like. To other people it is upsetting and I find myself hiding how I feel as not to upset others. I am afraid of driving the people around me away. People are generally good, but no one can be expected to suffer along side someone forever. I'm not talking about you, but my own thoughts about myself. As for what's going on here I believe we have some seeking validation for the way they deal with their own problems by dumping on others - under the guise of saving the forum (absurd). Also, a lot of inconsistencies in defending their position (a tell-tale sign of someone who knows their wrong). The Forum Mod has spoken and there is really nothing to add. Continuing to micro-analyze this as to who had what right to say what is really pointless. Please keep posting and let us know your progress, if something works for you it could help others keep playing.

The point was in reference to "tone", not with regard to posts liked or disliked, agreed with or disagreed with, nor suggesting that one should not post, but rather the use of some common courtesy when expressing one's viewpoint.

GilgaFrank, I will miss you. I always loved reading through a thread and hitting one of your bombs! Your brash comments always made my day! You also gave good advice on guitars and had a good knowledge of Fender instruments. Good luck, I hope you change your mind.

Well, I might as well take the opportunity to say I will miss his positive contributions also. After "jumping" on him in this thread I was going to send him a PM. But, I figured he was a big boy and could handle what ever trouble he got himself into. I wish him well.

Freedom of speech is something most countries represented by the membership on this board recognize as basic rights. Derek has the right to start a thread about his health so long as it doesn't break the rules of the forum. Frank has the right to express dismay that he sees the board slowly turning into Facebook. He is not the only one who feels that way. Some pretty respected members of this forum have strongly expressed similar sentiments. They have that right. And their argument has merit. We have seen more than our share of pointless threads, many of which are not unlike the SNL skit in which the teenager posts, "I brushed my hair and now I'm eating chips."

Should Frank have posted his opinion using that tone? Probably not. He could and should have said it more diplomatically.

Should members have pounced on him the way they did? Absolutely not. He has the same rights as anyone else and it's not their place to be his judge.

Rob correctly identified the Lounge as being a place where personal threads are tolerated. Frank should have recognized that fact. He still has the right to express his concern that the forum should be about making music with Fender instruments. The others involved should have recognized that fact. Despite what people may think, nobody won this argument.

Sorry, freedom of speech "rights" hold no water on a privately owned message board. This basic misunderstanding of what that ammendment means never seems to die.

I have to agree with the others- just leave if you don't want to be a part of the community any longer. No need for vulgar language or drama llama exits...

Better yet, if someone's attitude or posting style bothers you, just add them to your ignore list. POOF! problem solved.

The amendment only relates to the people of the United States of America, i.e. it does not apply to GilgaFrank.

When you open a forum up to the world, no matter where you are, beware that the people you open it to may have other rights, some of which may be inalienable, and which the web server location or terms of use cannot override. The US is only in the middle of the field as far as rights go.
You can in most cases choose who you want on your server, though.

And there's a good amount of vigilante justice on forums - those who feel unwelcome will often leave.
Which is sad. Even though I think GilgaFrank acted like a berk, I would prefer it if he stayed.
He's a better guitar player than I am.

I'm certain this is my fault. I should not have stuck up for John Mayer in the John Mayer hating thread. That's enough to set anybody off.

Seriously, dropping f-bombs in a corporate-owned forum is uncalled for. Decorum, gentlemen.

[b]"The US is only in the middle of the field as far as rights go."[/b
And sliding fast. Where else can I go? I guess we're 12th-15th as far as standard-of-living goes. Ouch.

Hey, didn't Mary Poppins do a topless scene in another film?

That would be in S.O.B., which is a movie that parodies itself.

Naked reenactment of the classics could be a very good way to turn today's youth onto some real culture. :P
