Today I went to see my pain specialist and he asked just exactly my day job entailed. I told him that I designed and fabricated speciality seating systems and equipment for physically disabled children and used a variety of different tools, many of which vibrated quite a bit.He said that it was a 99% possibility that the cause was these tools as many people who use such tools for a period of years end up with nerve damage in their hands and after over 25 years of using such tools I would be a prime candidate for nerve damage. He is ordering yet another battery of tests and nerve conduction studies to try and get to the bottom of my pain.I really miss playing professionally and would give anything to be able to play again-even if it was for my own enjoyment.Once you get used to playing to audiences regularly,it just gets into your blood and you just feel that you have to do it.There still isn't anything quite as satisfying though as being set upon by hordes of adoring fans......lol.

I hope they figure it out and you can get back to playing again, man.

I'm assume you have by now, but I was wondering if you have tried Neurontin (Gabapentin) and if you have what experience you had with it. I've heard both good and bad things about it. It sounds like a good treatment for neuropathic pain until you read about all the psychological side-effects it has and I worry that it's habit forming. Even if they say it's not, sometimes they are very much habit forming over long term. I hope you get back to playing (the way you want) soon and don't give up the fight! I know easier said than done, but we are pulling for you.

Thanks guys, I've been taking Gabapentin for several months now Matt, 500 mg. X 3 a day but the doc increased it to 600 X 3 today, thanks for the tip anyway.BTW it was directly because of this forum that I was able to find out that part of what was wrong with my hands was in fact Raynaud's Syndrome.

@ Gilga Frank:Did it ever occur to you that people might be a little bit sick of your negativity? If you don't give a ^&% whether other forum members might drop dead by the dozens I happen to have concern for other forum members who have health problems as do most others, especially if it impacts their ability to play and as I stated above,it was because of a medical professional who is a forum member I was able to find out that Raynaud's Syndrome was causing a significant amount of my hand pain and muscle cramping that was severely limiting my playing time and ability.By putting it out in the forum some kind of medical problem you are plagued with whether music related or not,a lot of forum members have found out treatments and even diagnosis that they never knew existed. I wonder what kind of insensitive comment you'll come off with the next time dares to come up with something that's not on topic and offends you such as their mother dying of cancer or daughter getting murdered by a drunk driver (these things have actually been posted).Rather than complaining every time someone posts a thread or comment that you find offensive, why don't you apply for a position as moderator rather than act as a self appointed one.Get a life!!!

This forum is for open public discussion of all things Fender and general music-related subjects.

That's why I come to this forum. I don't care about your aches and pains. Sorry but there it is. This thread has nothing to do with Fender or music. There's no mention of anything about music in it so far. It's just a big old whine about how ill you are.

If we want to moan about how ill we are, I've had five occasions in the last three months where I've been picked off the floor by paramedics due to a medical condition that stands a strong chance of killing me.

At no point did I consider starting a thread on a music forum informing people of this.

Seems to me that covers medical/other things that affect a person's playing (e.g. a lateral epicondylitis is almost an occupational hazard...).

Frank, you have a lot to contribute to the forum on other subjects. A friendly suggestion: just disregard the topics you don't like, and move on to things you find interesting.

Well I'll be sure to do that, and to recommend that people don't read my posts if they find me overly abrasive.

In the meantime, let's all try and learn something from this guy who is talking about gigging again.

Ahh, Wilko...
That latest piece of joyful news was announced on a national radio station here as "Wilko Johnson from Game Of Thrones", his guitar playing mentioned somewhere in the last lines of the story

I was lucky enough to discover Dr. Feelgood in the seventies, been a Wilko fan ever since. One of the "my generation" players I could introduce to my son (the works, not person to person), and one reason for why my son plays a Tele.
BTW, the original Wilko Tele had a black pickguard...

Now, Frank, did we stay on topic here or wha..?

I'm with GilgaFrank on this one. This isn't FaceBook, and I hope that Fender puts a stop to all of the BS personal posts.

You want compassion, go see a therapist and quit wasting space on a MUSIC FORUM.

If it's purely a music forum, why are the two threads
The cities game and What's your first name on here with no adverse comments?
(both of which incidentally have had lots of views and replies )

I am on 2 Turkish related forums as we have a villa there and there are diverse subjects covered on there from current news items not related to Turkey to a Cancer help thread , as it was discussed ages ago that only allowing certain subjects was putting a limit on posters and lets face it there are only so many times you can have the arguments about relic or no relic/maple or rosewood fingerboard/ modern or vintage /valve amp or solid state / who is the best guitarist and why a certain pickup is the best

Perhaps you could petition the Forum mods here to open a separate area for personal discussions, and leave this part of the forum as it was intended to be.

I never did buy into the cop out of; "others are doing something wrong, so why can't I?" Those who want to try and turn this forum into some stupid facebook crap really suck.

My post had everything to do with music as this condition has been affecting my playing and being able to gig for 5 years and even though you two seem to have to appointed yourselves the forum Gestapo for the past 5 years there have been many people who have been encouraging an supportive and one actually came up with a diagnosis of one of the components of what has turned out to be a combination of several neuro-muscular maladies.I phuking well not looking for sympathy nor am I whining. All along I have put a humourous spin on my posts and tried to lighten them up.I worked for almost 40 years with childrenwith physical abilities and I have seen some of these brave little souls cope with unimaginable hurdles they've had to overcome so I bloody well wouldn't dare whine about any condition I have.If I wanted to whine and complain,I'd be carrying on about getting rushed to the ER last Thursday morning with incredible chest pains,or the chronic pain syndrome that has me sleep deprived from getting 1-2 hours sleep for several nights in a row until I finally crashand sleep for 16 hours or more,or I could talk about my atrial fibrillation and having to get m heart stopped and kick-started again,or I could bang on about having to be hooked up to a $6,000 machine on nights when I can sleep so I don't die while sleeping from my severe sleep apnea,or I could bang on about my psoriatic arthritis along with my osteoarthritis or maybe my diabetes,or I could really give you a great account about the degenerative disc disease that made it necessary for me to undergo a spinal fusion so that my legs would no longer give out in under me without warning. Believe me I would have plenty of room to belly ache and complain but I'm not like that. There are many people I have met during my past 6 or 7 years that I've been on the forum that I consider close friends and I would imagine that a good many consider me a friend as I have endeavoured ever since I joined not to say anything negative or insulting to others out of respect and since I possess a certain amount of empathy. Over the years I have seen many forum members discuss hand injuries and other ailments that aren't even related in the most remote sense to playing but I would cut my own hands off before I'd dare tell someone who's talking about how their chemotherapy treatment went to shut up complaining and stay on topic because I have concern for other forum members that I consider friends and yes some of them are also friends of mine on Facebook and other sites as well. This forum wouldn't be nearly as interesting or informative if members were compelled to talk strictly about Fender related subjects,I can see it now with the Forum Gestapo "That's a two week suspension for mentioning a Gibson Firebird and three weeks for mentioning your grandfather's hemorrhoids." I come on this forum not to inform or enlighten the Gilga Frank's and Shimmilous but to converse with forum members who aren't so anal retentive that it irks them to no extent to see someone speak outside the box .So if I want to put up a recipe for hash brownies or instructions on how to safely pick your nose with a hammer drill I will continue to do so and anyone who has a problem with that can go rape themselves. That's all I'm having to say about this childish bs.Have a nice day.
