We have a few favorite album threads around, but according to my search, no favorite live album thread. Depending on the artist, live albums are better than studio, in my opinion.

My favorites are the Who "Live at Leeds" and Rush "Exit stage left". I couldn't choose between the two.

As soon as I read the thread title, before a post was read, Live at Leeds, popped into my mind as a first thought.....and possible contender. :D

However, The Allman Brothers, "Live at the Filmore East", is my Exit Stage Left.

An honorable mention: My bass playing had a major influence, when I was beginning, from the Jefferson Airplane's "Bless Its Little Pointed Head". Live recordings from the Filmore's East and West (IIRC), and hearing this master demonstrate his way of filling the lower sonic palette. His use of chords, and the way he used them, found a home in my approach. Like a chord splash following a walking bass line playing jazz guitar.

For me my all time favorite is clear:

Paul McCartney and Wing: Wings Over America

There is so much good playing and musicianship on that album.

The next two on my list are U2: Under a Blood Red Sky
and
Pink Floyd: Pulse

I would also have to give honorable mention to the Kinks: One for the Road.

I listen to those live albums (and have listened to) far more than any others.

Although I just realized that I did listen to The Scorpions: World Wide Live, so it seems I should check out the Tokyo Tapes as they have been shown a fair amount of love in this thread.

Yes too too many to mention, way to hard for a favorite. I posted one earlier on in this post but I could keep listing them, so I think I favor most live albums over studio, I think I feel more energy from them, that's just my thought. Maybe because I am a live audio engineer of 35 years, and never did to much in a studio

Everyone of these is a great choice, for sure.

As for Sting's "Bring On The Night", that was a movie, too ... all about making his first solo album after the Police. He used a bunch of top-notch black jazz musicians to do it, all of whom being accused of "selling out", and Sting for exploiting them. Check it out ... fabulous musicianship, for sure.

I love so many, but I will have to pick the Allman Brothers' Fillmore East double album.
